K A I N E

I stood upon the balcony looking down at our guests. The heaten, like always had to make a scene by doing something violent.

Don't get me wrong, he defiled one of my servants. Aribelle, she was a kind girl. Always happy and laughing, running around the palace.

I remember her always getting scold for it. She accidentally knocked a painting down in the dinner hall. But I covered for her, and got her ice-cream. Poor thing was frightened beyond belief.

My mother gasped at my announcement of making Onyx my concubine. And I'm also aware he wouldn't be able to bear children. I just wanted to see him scowl.

Like he always did, since we've been kids. That was a long time ago, where we actually were friends.

But, like everything in life. It came to an end.

He stood up from his position on his knees, and made his way up the stairs towards me. A deathly glare in his icey stare.

To say I wasn't afraid, would be a lie. But I'm no coward and I will face him head on.

Onyx came right up to me, the royal guards were ready to unsheate their swords and attack him. But I held up my hand, halting their actions.

"I fucking refuse." he growled into my face.

I came even closer, our noses almost touching. My mother and father, with all the other royalty looked at the scene perplexed and some looked amused.

Isle, on the other hand looked furious. Her red hair was elegantly tied back and away from her face. Her manicured hand resting upon the swell of her belly. The only quality the siblings had in common was the eyes.

"You don't have a choice, didn't your mother force you to come? Since you're still unmarried. The only General in history that is also still a bachelor. I'm doing you a favor, Onyx" I said grabbing his thick shoulder.

He slapped my hand away, "Don't threaten me, Kaine. I'm not in the mood for one of your games. Go play with your concubines and leave me out of it." He exclaimed pointing at my chest.

A chuckle fell from my lips. Many would say I was charming, handsome. Beautiful even. But with this man, looks weren't everything. He wants the bare bones of a person, not their facade.

"Look, Your Highness. I don't need your so called 'help' in finding a partner. I'm doing just fine."

My eyes narrowed at his statement - was he already betrothed?

"Well it can't be helped, you've already been announced as my final concubine. This event was planned solely for that reason." I said in a sing-songy voice.

His head turned so fast, I swear he broke his neck. His satin black hair fell into his eys, making him look ethereal.

I've been known for my mischievousness in the kingdoms. Plus, I don't have a preference for any gender. If I like you, I like you.

My father would argue that I'm a sodomist but I beg to differ.

"Fine, do what you want Kaine. I can't be bothered with your excuses. Just make sure that you're willing to commit to this and not say you're just joking and then waste my time." Onyx said, staring me down like I was one of his enemies that killed his soldiers.

I nodded since words have betrayed me, if Onyx was described as one thing and one thing only it would be intense.

He turned around and went back down, we watched as he approached the woman and asked her something. She stood up quickly and nodded as he and his men followed her out.

The door closed behind them and everyone could breathe again. Including me.

"You can't be possibly serious, Kaine. A man as a concubine, and him of all people? We would be a laughing stock when the rest of the kingdoms find out!" my father screamed at me.

I rolled my eyes at him, not wanting to listen anymore I made my way towards the confectionery and ate a tart of sorts.

It was meant as a joke, but I guess not anymore. I made a promise and I will not be seen as someone with so little confidence as to keep my promises.

The deal is done, the King was still blabbering about how fast his health is declining since I've been announced as Crown Prince. My siblings could take the crown at any moment. But at this time are too afraid to do so.

My private army is the biggest amongst me and my siblings. And they know it. Isle, the poor girl just wanted more in life than what her country could give her.

Isle and Onyx are not of royal decent, but they are both noble.

"Kaine, you better know what you are doing. The king of Ferdiness will not be happy about losing his general to us. You must know the consequences of your so called 'joke' " my mother, Queen Lilianna said.

Her eyes held so much love for her children, but this time I might have gone too far.

I huffed and turned towards my family. Their eyes not leaving mine, a royal habit of not backing down from eye contact.

"He will still be a general, mother. He cannot bear me any children, but having him as a concubine might just be a blessing in disguise."

I've never seen the King as red as he was now. A tall man but with little to no muscle, long blond hair that curled at the ends from age. His age showed in his skin, sagging around his sapphire eyes.

They're so intense, that it seems as if they are staring into your soul.

My mother was heavy set, petite and plump. But you know what they say little bottle, dangerous poison. Her blond hair was braided into her crown. Little diamonds lined the braids, like stars in the sky.

Everyone will understand that I, Crown Prince Kaine will not go back on my word. Not for anyone.
