The boy started running, further and further away from that place, but the flames didn't seem to have any intention of extinguishing.
They were expanding more and more, trapping the boy in that endless room...

He had to... give up. 

There was no way out of there unharmed, he had to accept his fate.

He tried to close his eyes, letting himself be lulled by that magical yet frightening sound.
He felt the flames just steps away from him, when his instinct forced him to turn around.

Was... there someone else?

In the distance, he saw an unrecognizable figure, a silhouette distorted by smoke, slowly making its way toward him. 

A strange light enveloped her, but he couldn't understand who she was until she was right in front of him.
It was a girl, with short hair, a gray top, and a pink and white skirt.
He had seen her before, he was sure of it.

His mind went back a few weeks.
He was running with Goh towards that boat, with a high risk of being late.
At first, he didn't even realize he had passed by an old travel companion.

Serena had grown so much since the last time he saw her.
The meeting of their eyes was something wonderful for Ash, he felt so safe telling her his dreams, such naturalness in sharing as if she had never left.

But why was she there? 

He remembered her in Hoenn, not in Galar.

His body received a powerful adrenaline rush, forcing him to dive into the flames. 

His heart rate accelerated, and his vision blurred as he approached, in vain.

Why was Serena there? 

Nothing should have happened to her; he had to help her!

He didn't even feel the heat of the flames, he didn't care about anything except getting her to safety.

<<Serena... Serena!!>>
 But the girl kept moving further away until she disappeared.
Ash fell to his knees, desperate; he understood the reason for the blurring of his vision only at that moment: tears, streaming down his cheeks copiously, with no intention of stopping.

<<Serena..SERENAAAAAA!>>.

He opened his eyes again, but this time he found himself in a completely different situation: neon lights focused on him, IVs attached to his arm, a blanket over him, one shoulder completely immobilized.
He tried to focus, as someone approached, as he could tell from the sound of footsteps.
Among the first things he saw were his mother's eyes, swollen, and red; she must have cried a lot.
Then little by little, he saw all his Pokémon, Goh, Chloe, Dawn, and some champions in the distance.
