it was cold.
the wind blew through the trees and sent a chill through everyone that felt it, leaving them with a pink nose and chapped lips. the small children paid no mind to this, as they were running about the small play yard of the preschool, with their coats and mittens.
except for one.
the younger hoseok sat on a swing, swinging back and forth slightly. he looked down at his feet, then up at the sky. he wasn't playing with anybody, he never did. nobody wanted to be friends with him.
he heard the woodchips on the ground crunch and looked up to see a little girl in a hot pink puffer jacket with matching gloves and a hat sitting on the swing next to him, arms crossed. even young him thought you were kind of cute.
"what's the matter?" he asked in a shy voice. you glanced over in surprise, and back to the ground. "my friends and i were playing house. they made me be the homeless person." you said sadly.
"oh." was all he said. "what happened to your friends?" you asked him. he sighed. "i don't have any friends." he said sadly. "oh." you said quietly. "we can be friends!" you said, smiling at him.
he looked back at you and smiled a rectangular grin. "yes. i'd like that." he said. before anything else was said, the teacher rang the bell and you went back inside together.
later that day, it was time to color a worksheet with the planets on it. the teacher said it was okay for you to work with your friends. a little boy named mark ran right over to your table with his paper and crayons.
"mimi, let's color together!" he said, taking a seat across from you. you nodded your head eagerly. "yes! can i borrow your crayons? i left mine at home." you said, thinking about your box of new crayons that were sitting on your dining room table at home.
he nodded. "yes." you both got to work coloring, trying your best to get it as close to the picture on the smartboard as possible. yours was okay, but mark's was a big mess.
hoseok returned from getting some water from his cubby to see you and mark together across the classroom. his eyes narrowed; you were his friend. why hadn't you wanted to color with him? he grabbed his coloring supplies and walked over to where you were sitting.
you were looking down and coloring. while they were out of your line of vision, hoseok pushed mark out of his chair and took his place. he pushed the box of crayons along with him, and they scattered everywhere.
"hi mimi." he said happily. you looked up, not paying any mind to where mark had gone. he was probably with other friends somewhere. you just smiled. "hi hobi." you said. hoseok smiled at your new name for him, he quite liked it. he decided that he only wanted you to call him that. it was his nickname now.
he looked at you as you colored your planets. you really were very cute. and so sweet! nobody had ever talked to him like that, nobody ever came up to him and became his friend.
you were special, and he knew that
—
that was almost 10 years ago. from that moment on, you two were inseparable. sleepovers, halloween, birthdays, every single day was spent together. it still was, to this day. you were both 16 now. he still felt the same way, except now instead of wanting to be the only one you colored planets with, he wanted to be the only one, period.
love, it wasn't right word for it. it wasn't strong enough. to put it simply, hoseok wanted you to have nothing to do with anyone except him. he wanted you all to himself.
he knew that he was the only one for you and you were the only one for him. you were perfect for each other. he would do anything for you. he would go to the ends of the earth for you, climb the tallest mountain for you,
he'd kill for you
he wanted to take you away from the horrible cruel world that you were too perfect for and you'd live an amazing life together; you'd live in a gorgeous home, have 5 kids (and a dog!), you'd spend every waking moment together (except for when he had to go to work, so he could support your amazing life together).
you'd eat ice cream and watch sunsets and sit in front of fires in the winter. you would build snowmen and sandcastles and travel together. you'd eventually grow old and sit in rocking chairs together.
he'd tell you how much he loved you and how much of an amazing life he had with you and how he'd do anything to live it all over again. you'd tell him that you loved him even more and that you'd spend the rest of eternity together forever, wherever that was.
you'd be together until one of you took your final breath and the other would sit, and wait, and wait, until they took theirs and you were finally reunited in the afterlife.
it'd just be you and him.
but unfortunately, nothing in life was that easy, even for him. there were many obstacles in the way of him and the rest of his life. those obstacles being all your other friends.
because you were such a perfect person and so lovable, everybody wanted to be your friend. you had friends older than you, a few younger, both males and females.
of course, hoseok didn't like that at all. he despised everybody associated with you. he loved to see you happy, but hated seeing you happy when it wasn't with him. it'd be easy for him to get rid of them all, he could do it very quickly, but it wasn't time for that yet. he decided to let you have your fun with your little friends for a little while. it wasn't time to do anything yet.
but the thing, the one thing, that was going to make him snap and do something horrible..
they kept trying to set you up with this one guy, kim namjoon. no offense to him here, but he wasn't hoseok. sure, he was very smart, and athletic, and very kind to everybody around him, but hoseok just had qualities that he didn't.
the group had tried to trick you guys into sitting with each other at lunch time, and get you two alone in hallways and classrooms. hoseok was around whenever this happened. he always made sure to be around you. he could see by the look in that dirtbag's eyes that he had a little crush on you.
from the outside, the comparison of who was better for you was simple: hoseok wasn't that popular, only averagely athletic, and sometimes not very smart or nice. namjoon, on the other hand, was the exact opposite.
but did namjoon know your favorite movie? your favorite take out food? did he know what your biggest fear or insecurity was? did he know what made you upset and know how to avoid bringing it up? no, he didn't.
see, that's the thing. namjoon knew you, but hoseok knew you. (a/n help i hope that made sense.) he knew every little thing about you, even the things that you didn't tell him. he could better take care of you and make you happier than that namjoon ever could.
and that was why, he had to go. it was sad, but true. he didn't feel guilty, though. if it was for you, he could never feel bad. in his eyes, it was actually namjoon's fault that he had gotten himself in this situation. this is just what he gets for trying to take something that isn't his.
