"Ari, it's way past your bedtime!" Shouted mom, all the way downstairs in the living room. "Com'on now, lights out, you have school in the morning!"...
I am on the phone, with Jake, of course.. He says the sweetest things.. He's the last thing I think about when I go to bed and the first when I wake up in the mornings. I can't break the conversation now, its just getting heated.
"Yeah, mom, I know. Just gimme a sec, I'm finishing up my project that's due tomorrow!!" I shouted back at her.
What? Its just a simple lie... It won't hurt- if she doesn't find out- which she won't. I actually have a project that's due tomorrow, but I've completed that like three days ago. I knew that if I told mom that I'm up because of school based work, then she'd allow me to go ahead and finish up. But if she dare found out that I lied because of "that boy", then she'd totally flip. Although, I do take my school work very seriously, due to the mere fact that my parents put their time, effort and money in to send me to school. I ain't gonna waste any time... I want everyone to be proud of me. I wanna be history. I've never been late, never been absent-except for that one time in 7th grade, when I got sick because of the contaminated water at the school. I had to miss classes to visit the Doctor- and he gave me a shot-on my bottox- and yes! I did say " HE" (a male)... So not kool!!!!...
As I got off the phone, I turned the lights off and went straight to bed. Why can't my mind shut up whenever I'm tryna sleep?! Gosh! I tapped myself in the head, hoping to stop thinking about that stoner.- Did I seriously just say that word out loud? You heard nothing! I turned and pulled the spread across my restless body- expecting to fall asleep really soon.
Not long after, I heard this loud, disturbing ringing sound- the sound of metal hitting against something. I do a 180° rotation, only to find that it was my alarm clock going off. I DID realize that it was the alarm, but it didn't actually click to my brain immediately. I then heard a really loud bang on the door, then it busted right open. I heard a voice saying "Up, up, you're gonna be late." It was mom.
"Mom, why are u interrupting my beauty sleep? Isn't it like 5:00?" I replied with the laziness in my voice.
"Actually, it's 7. You need to go take a shower and get dressed. I made pancakes and eggs. I'm sure you don't want em to get cold, now do you?"
I managed to get up and battled my way over to the bathroom. I put my hair up in a simple bun and pinned an adorable little bow onto it. I stepped into the bath to take a shower and got out in a rush. I got dressed as quickly as possible, sparing just the right amount of time to head downstairs and eat. I barely finished eating when I heard the school's bus horn hionking outside by the gate. I grabbed my backpag up off the table and sped outside in a flash, yelling "laterz mom!"
"Bye sweetheart, have yourself a wonderful day!" She yelled back.
When I got to school, Jenna was already there. She was seated at her desk, amongst the rest of the class, with her books on top in front of her- all ready for class. My seat was right next to her. Jenna is just another friend of mine. She's the piety one in the class-more than you'll ever know. And I must mention, she loves food, she eats a lot, yet she's so extremely skinny; you can see her bones literally bracing outwards, tryna escape her chest. No offense Jen :).
"Hey, Jenna", I greeted her with a smile on my face.
"Morning Ari, what's up? How are you? Did you do your assignment?" She cross-questioned me.
"Nothing, good, yes, and what's with the multiple questions?" I responded.
"I've been having a really hard time completing my assignment and I'm afraid that it's not informative enough to give a good term grade." She explained.
"So why didn't you come to me for help? I've completed mine like four days ago. You know I would've helped you, right?" I asked.
"Yea I know you would've been of assistance." She admitted.
"Well, the due date is here, so I guess it's too late. And I trust that you did your best. Only your best is good enough." I said, trying to build her confidence.
"Mr Bentley should just hurry up and collect them- just get this over with." Jenna pleaded.
"He isn't even here as yet! That lazy ass nigga. He's always late for our classes and then marches in and gives a lame excuse!" I complained to Jenna.
"Yeah, for real!" Jenna agreed.
"He just better not let my mom or the principal find out that he doesn't attend classes, or else he'll see who won't be an instructor at Ridgemore high anymore." I murmured.
Just as I finished speaking, Khloe blazed inside the classroom. "Pinpoint baby! Right on time", I shouted at her, giving her a high five. "8:30 on the dot, but you still need to come earlier." I encouraged her.
Fifteen minutes had past since the starting of our firs session and Mr. Bentley is not not here.
"Speaking of which-" I said.
Just then, Mr. Bentley walks into the class and placed his things on his desk. "Good morning class, sorry to be late-" He greeted us.
"Again!" I blurted out.
"What was that, Miss Crooks?" Questioned Mr. Bentley.
"Nothing!" I answered.
He continued, "As I was saying, I apologize for being late. I got a flat tire on my way here, but unfortunately, I didn't have a spare."
"See what I mean?" I whispered to my friends. "Lame!"
"May you all please place your assignments on my desk?" Mr. Bentley asked politely.
I turned my head to take a glimpse at Jenna as everyone got up and made their way up to the front of the class to do as they were told. I handed mine to a kid that was sitting next to me to bring it up for me. I was feeling a bit too lazy to get up myself.
As Mr. Bentley started teaching, someone barged into the room. We didn't have to look to know who it was. Once we heard gigantic footsteps, followed by silence, then chair legs pulling against the concrete flooring, we knew exactly who it was.
"Good morning, Miss Finley, did you forget something?" Mr. Bentley approached Dionnie.
She responded, "Nope, I didn't. But you were saying something, so you need to hurry up and proceed before YOU forget something."
He didn't even bother to respond to her statement, he just continued teaching the lesson. Dionnie is kinda the bad ass in the class. That rich bitch doesn't care about anything and anyone, she just does as she pleases.
The bell rang in less than a minute. "Well at least I made it in before break!" Dionnie exclaimed.
