Note: For wolfkid22.
I wrote this as a participant of the BNHA Secret Santa event hosted by fyeahbnha. This story is one for the books as one of the few pieces I've finished, and as my first work published on Ao3 (and now Wattpad)! I hope you enjoy it.Patrols with Bakugou were typically uneventful.
"My actual job isn't protecting you, dumbass!"
"Yeah, but it's more fun when it is."
...In most cases.
You coughed as you waved your arm through the cloud of debris, your quirk clearing it enough to breathe but not enough to be seen by your attacker. The two of you had been on your usual patrol around the city one chilly morning when Bakugou suddenly tackled you to the ground. The sheer force of his actions ripped the earbuds out of your ears. You didn't usually listen to music on patrols, but you were almost killed the one time you did. Lesson learned.
"Who the hell did you piss off this time?" Bakugou ask-shouted, a hint of concern-minuscule at best-in his voice. A few months ago, you would've thought that he was simply annoyed at your lack of attentiveness, which you were sure was partially the case. Still, you could tell that he was more annoyed at the fact that you had almost been seriously injured, and on his watch no less.
"It's funny how you think I remember everyone I talk to," you said as you tugged Bakugou behind you, using your quirk to form a makeshift blast wall with the dust particles in the area. "That could've just as much been meant for you."
"Huh?" Bakugou looked appalled at the insinuation, but he didn't offer much else in protest. After all, he made enemies about as fast as you did, if not faster. But even you knew there wasn't anyone who would try to kill him in broad daylight.
The brick wall that was once behind you had been reduced to scorched chunks of rubble. You watched as they diminished further, decaying until all that remained was a fine powder that drifted in the wind. Whoever had targeted you meant business, so the fact that they put you in a situation where your quirk would thrive made no sense...unless they didn't know exactly what your quirk was. That definitely shortened your list of suspects.
With that thought, you were suddenly very aware of the screaming and scrambling citizens around you. While you had been in your own head, you had forgotten that you and Bakugou had been patrolling a fairly populated area.
"Ah, right. Protect the citizens, evacuate the area, etc., etc.,"
"How the hell you became a hero is beyond me," Bakugou grumbled, and to your surprise, a huffed laugh escaped his lips.
"For once, you and I are on the same page."

Bakugou couldn't remember the last time he had a day off. As a Pro Hero, the days he worked vastly outweighed the ones he didn't, and he always took advantage of his time off. So, he couldn't comprehend how the hell he ended up spending his one day off combing the city looking for you. Seriously, it was cold as fuck, and he was freezing his ass off.
"Fucking hell," Bakugou grumbled as a shiver ran up his spine. He could have been doing literally anything else, and it would've been better than this. And yet, there he was trekking through the cold at your boss' bidding.
