A/N: I'll be referring to alt Gabriel as Lucifer cause I believe alt Gabriel is Satan lmao. Forgive me, Lord, for what I am about to write.
Gabriel was sent with a simple task. Tell Mary, Joseph and some shepherds about the coming of the Messiah. He had agreed to do the job as he was the fastest angel to do the job. What he didn't have in mind was to have an encounter with a former friend.
Gabriel was minding his own business after telling the shepherds of what was to come. He was heading towards Mary to deliver the message when the sky started to darken. It wasn't too odd as it was nighttime, but as the sky darkened, the stars faded away, leaving nothing but pitch black sky.
Gabriel stopped flying and lowered himself to the ground. He turned around to see what was going on as he couldn't quite figure out what was going on. As he turned, he noticed the angels surrounding him had vanished and he was completely alone.
This didn't completely bother him, he was an archangel after all. He could protect himself.
He scanned the area again, giving frantic glances across the landscape. Why was this happening? He never recalled anything about the sky turning black during his explanation. Did he miss something?
There was a rustle from a nearby bush. He jerked his head towards the origin of the sound. A soft humming was coming from the bush and Gabriel tensed. He summoned a spear and gripped it tightly, aiming it at the bush.
"Gabriel, Gabriel, no one is coming for you, not even your lord," the voice whispered. From there, a creature emerged. It crawled forward towards Gabriel with its tall, uneven, lanky body. Its skin was a sickly grey and its face was long and deformed, out of proportion, you could say.
This was definitely not a part of the plan.
Gabriel shakily pointed his spear towards the creature which was laughing at this point. "What are you?" he yelled to it. It continued to laugh hysterically.
"Gabriel, it's me," it said with such glee "Don't you recognise?"
Gabriel gripped his spear tighter. "No, because I can't recognise you with all that turmoil you carry. It makes it so disgusting to look at you," He replied with gritted teeth.
The creature's face fell a bit. Slowly but surely it responded. "Ok then, maybe this will help you remember."
The creature lifted itself and began to transform. Its skin turned from a sickly grey to a pale white. Its body shrank into proportion and thick locks of hair sprouted from its head. A pair of wings unfolded from its back, covering the view of the mountains. "Now?" it asked.
Gabriel felt his grip loosen. He could feel a rise of emotions circle within him. Why was it him? After what he did, why was he back?
Gabriel knelt and started to weep. He knew there was no point in crying for the fallen, he mustn't but why did this feel different? Did he feel sorry? Or was it because of all the pain caused?
A hand touched the side of his cheek but he battered it away. "Get away from me," He sobbed "GET AWAY FROM ME, LUCIFER!"
Lucifer seemed a bit taken back from this but simply smiled. He found extreme joy in seeing those he hated, suffer. "What's wrong Gabe?" He asked.
"NO, DON'T CALL ME THAT! DON'T YOU EVEN DARE!" Gabriel shrieked, pointing towards the fallen angel "THE AMOUNT OF PAIN YOU CAUSED NOT JUST FOR ME, BUT FOR MICHAEL, FOR RAPHAEL, FOR ALL OF HEAVEN, IS TOO GREAT TO CONSIDER!" He gave a small sob and dug his hands into the ground.
He needed to stop crying. He had to. He should feel no sorrow for this fallen angel, after all, he was crying for someone who created disharmony in the first place.
Gabriel wiped his eyes with his sleeve and stood up. He gripped the spear tightly and pointed it toward Lucifer. "Why are you even here?" he asked angrily.
That was when Lucifer leaned in close and gently lifted Gabriel's face towards his, holding his face in his palm. He wiped Gabriel's hair out of his face and whispered. "I'm here to reverse the delusion."
And he started to smile. No ordinary smile, a twisted, long smile. A smile of nightmares, you could call.
With that, he moved his hand towards the side of Gabriel's head and snapped it. It gave a loud crack before falling limp. "I'm sorry, Gabriel," he whispered with a smile "But there can only be the one of us."
