-{ Chapter 2 - Welcome, little ones! }-

"I just don't understand why she isn't opening her eyes!" 

The gruff voice of a tom echoed around the nursery like thunder. As Blossomkit slowly started to open her eyes, fuzzy shapes started to focus around her. She noticed that another kit was laying beside her. Blossomkit thought this must be her sister, who she heard had been named Sunsetkit. As the tom stopped screeching, Blossomkit realized that he was looking at her. 

"Oh, my sweet little Blossomkit..." the silver and white tom said sweetly. 

As she thought about who this cat must be, she soon knew he was her father. They shared the same eyes and ears, so it made sense. He leaned down to lick her head. Blossomkit started to purr. Suddenly, a jumping ball of fur was circling her excitedly. It was her sister, Sunsetkit. 

"You're awake!" Sunsetkit exclaimed. "I couldn't wait for you to get up. We're gonna be best friends, Blossomkit!" Sunsetkit dashed out of the nursery. 

"Hey! Wait for me!" yelped Blossomkit as she tried to catch up with her speedy sister. As the two kits left the nursery, they were amazed by how big the RiverClan camp was. The two kits started to head toward a large bush with a gaping hole as the opening. Blossomkit thought it looked like a den, but she rushed into it anyway. She ran straight into a huge ball of white fluff. 

"Oof!" The sound of Blossomkit's voice was muffled by the fur. She felt it moving and held onto the fluffy pelt. She heard a quiet growl coming from the mountain of fur. 

"Kits these days..." a deep voice sounded around the den.

"Cloudjumper!" the familiar, annoyed voice of her father rang throughout the den. "What do you think you're doing with my kits?"

 "Oh. These are yours and Mistycloud's kits." said the large tom, who seemed to be Cloudjumper.

Mistycloud. The name sounded familiar to Blossomkit. Oh! Mistycloud was her mother, of course! But where was she? Blossomkit remembered Clearwater telling her that her mother had died giving birth to her and her sister, and how her brother didn't survive either. 

As Cloudjumper shook Blossomkit off his pelt, she snapped back to reality.

"Hi, Cloudjumper! I'm Blossomkit, and this is my sister, Sunsetkit!" Blossomkit smiled.

Cloudjumper smiled warmly, his face reminiscing for a moment about Mistycloud. "Well, hello there, Blossomkit. I was a friend of your mother." Cloudjumper said sweetly. As Blossomkit was about to say something, she felt herself get scooped up.

"Ack!" Blossomkit yelped. She calmed down, realizing that it was only her father. 

"Come on, let's go. Why are you two talking to Cloudjumper, anyway?" her father whispered under his breath.

"Well, it was nice seeing you too, Minnowleap." Cloudjumper said nonchalantly. Yikes. They definitely don't like each other, Blossomkit thought to herself.

As they ventured on through the camp, a dark-furred tom with ripple-like markings all over his pelt padded toward her father. 

"Hey Minnowleap!" the unknown tom said. "Hey, kiddo! I'm Darkripple, your father's friend!" he mewed happily to the two kits. She purred and mewed, greeting Darkripple. Her father purred with delight at his kits' interest in his close friend. 

As the tiny kit absorbed all the smiles around her, she saw Cloud-Jumper looking at Minnowleap, forlorn and furious at the same. He seemed to notice she was watching him and blinked his ice-blue eyes at her. She felt some sort of connection to the blue-eyed tom, something special.
