CHAPTER I

A cold yet refreshing breeze passed through the sheets and woke me up. Well, that was what I wanted to believe. Actually, it was the loud and feminine yell I heard beside me, combined with a controlled still hard punch that hit my head. My hands automatically went to cover the pulsing wound that messed with my hair, that was already a confusion of tangled dark-brown cuffs, just making it worse.

"Ouch, Ren! You should be nicer to your Nii-chan, what are you, the incarnation of Suzune Kagami?!" She was internally furious, but, like every single time, didn't show it. I hated that. Even when I compared her with the super annoying sister of Denpa Kyoushi (I watched it just when it aired, on 2015, when I was seven) her expression would be always blank, no matter the situation. Not even a smile could be seen. But it was not always like this, it started when...

The snow was falling over our shoulders as we hugged each other, in front of our house's huge dark-colored doors. The words that came from my twin's mouth were the ones that later established a promise between us that would last forever, yet, I struggled when I heard them: "You're not alone. You'll never be alone. I will always be beside you and you will always be beside me. Father said that I should protect you. And so I will. Until the last millisecond of our short lifes, we'll be together! I won't let not even a single soul touch you, Nii-chan!"

After that, Ren would always be overprotective and get insane when I wasn't at her sight and I would freeze in fear when she wasn't near me, effect provoked by the traumatic experience we both suffered at a young age and the solitude we felt everytime someone mentioned "family".

I blinked, cutting the thoughts just like I would cut paper, 'cause I would get emotional if I continued. I hate being emotional, but I am really sensitive.

"Hey, you told me two months ago to woke you up no matter how when that stupid game was going to come out. Look at the clock." Ignoring the comment, she pointed to the digital hologram on my left side over a shelf, the one that showed all the years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds that passed. I stared, in shock, saying what I read out loud: "2022, November 6th, 12:46, 58 seconds, Sunday."

How did I forget? "Woahhhh!!!" I jumped off my bunk bed, the upper one, like a swift and stealthy ninja (Making a noise louder than an elephant crashing with a plane full of Doritos that fell into an active volcano). "T-thank you, precious, kind and beautiful sister! My love is more intense than- byeee!!!"

My feet were already crossing the room when she sighed, preparing a huge face palm: "I already made breakfast. It was near the clock, little baka!" Ren sat at her bed, showing her tongue with the same cold expression. Agh, I'm really an idiot! With an equal stealth (do I need to explain?), climbed the ladder that led to the messy blue sheets and examined the area, finally finding the dish full of oatmeal and a bit of milk. I grimaced. "Why do you always make me drink milk?"

"To make you grow." Seconds passed as I growled, really mad at her mix of humor and indifference. It wasn't the best joke I've heard. Wait... Was it a joke?! "I-I'm not that short!"

"Let me see. Come back down here." I jumped again to the floor (...), landing right in front of Ren. Placing her hand over my head, she said: "1,60 centimeters, being 11 centimeters and 3 milimeters shorter than me. You're still small." Making mental calculations, she would always be better at everything: P.E, maths, grammar, science, etc. etc. etc. That only helped my frustration grow.

"H-hey! You are the tall one!" A hand was placed over my head, stroking my hair gently.

"Ha-ha. Now drink your milk, you need some calcium." I sighed and climbed back to my oatmeal. I had only a few minutes and couldn't waste time discussing about my height, so I bluntly started to devour everything and drank some of the damn white liquid (of course, with an "eww" face). "Beep-beep" I looked around for the sound, finally remembering that I set an alarm for 12:58 "Cap! The game is online in two minutes!"
