Mirror Jump

Summary

Michael Stanley James, or "MJ," is a teenager who ignited the ability to manipulate heat while trying to save a girl from kidnappers. MJ and the others are taken by Division 3. Division 3 is a United States government organization working in conjunction with government agencies from all over the world. While they are a tactical arm of the United States military, they are dedicated to the identification, studying, and, sometimes, elimination of superhuman threats. MJ was infused with DNA from another talent user, which enables him to gain new abilities. With the use of mirrors, MJ discovers that he can travel into different universes and timelines with the use of mirrors. MJ and the others break free from Division 3 facilities and run into Asia. Asia sees them in a panic and takes them to her apartment. They all walk into the bathroom seeking to travel into another reality where they didn't get captured by Division 3. After jumping to a new universe, MJ expects his life to be perfect now that he can change anything about it simply by jumping into a new universe. MJ is learning his abilities and is starting to get the hang of them. He's been in a couple of dangerous situations, but he enjoys the thrill of it. Jocelyn properly introduces MJ and his friends to Asia, Ariel, and Leah, who are all unexpectedly very mean to Joselyn. MJ was so focused on Asia that he didn't notice them bullying Jocelyn. MJ is starting to develop feelings for Asia. They get attacked by Division 3, and MJ believes that putting his safety on the line to save her will somehow get her to fall in love with him, thus saving her. MJ was so distracted by Asia that he didn't notice that Jocelyn was captured by Division 3. MJ goes to Division 3's secret facilities to save Jocelyn and witnesses them stealing another girl's abilities. Leaving her lifeless, MJ intervenes and saves them both, unlocking his Heated Mode and taking them to a hospital where he learns that the girl's name is Liya Bekele. Asia invites MJ to a party to get his mind off of Jocelyn and the girl. Not only did MJ watch Asia give a guy she just met more affection than she had ever given him, despite everything he'd done for her. After disrespecting Asia, she tries to fight him. He ends up getting beat up by Will using his powers of Apocalypse, and the videos of it are quickly passed around throughout the community. People are making fun of him because of the video. His friends, Seth and Alex, joke with him about it, resulting in MJ just isolating himself and not hanging out with anybody. He hates everyone, but more importantly, he hates himself. For being so dumb and delusional and for letting a person have such emotional control over him, he can't stand the sight of Asia, especially when he sees her getting picked up after school by Will. He kind of fears Will; he almost died fighting him and barely escaped. He hides every time he spots Will in public, for his safety, and he hides whenever he sees him. MJ eventually grows tired of constantly hiding from Will. He's tired of all the people joking with him. He's tired of the current reality he's stuck in, and he decides that's all. He isn't running anymore. So be it if Will sees him and decides to fight again. If he ends up dying, then that is what it is. He's done letting the world treat him like a doormat. He becomes very violent towards people who bother or annoy him. He even purposely destroys a classmate's project. They got into an argument, and they started a fight. He gets suspended from school and drops out as a whole. Jocelyn tries to give him advice, and he cusses her out and threatens her. He shoots his shot at Shai (Seth's sister), which results in them fighting. He burns nearly all his bridges with his friends and loved ones. Later on, MJ Downs, the vigilante new hotspot, uses his abilities to take out his anger on minor criminals. Soon, Hotspot sees multiple criminals trying to rob banks to get easy money. He tries to intervene and gets badly beaten. Tired of losing, he unlocks Inferno mode and badly beats the thugs, retreating. Hotspot sees Will and wants revenge and follows him back to a Division 3 laboratory, where he sees a lifeless Asia in a machine and goes berserk, nearly killing all the lab workers looking at Will as if he was next. Inferno Hotspot starts to fight Will, but Will is just too powerful with his Omega-level abilities. Getting badly beaten by Will, unlocking his Potassium Mode, beating the life out of Will, and taking Asia's lifeless body, leaving Will in a bloodied pulp. MJ takes Asia to the hospital where Liya is still an attendee. She has been in the hospital for months. MJ is scared of Asia because she is going to be in a coma. He discovers a new way to jump into other universes. He decides he's going to jump alone and just start life over. He's going to jump into a universe set in the past, right before the fight with Will, but before that, he wants to make things right, and apologize to the people whom he has wronged.
