You made me feel brand new
Freshly ripe and grown into something good enough
You made me feel I would be eaten with care
If only it could've stayed strawberry sweet
Your nibbles of affection tingle on my tongue

We used to be like melons
Wonderfully refreshing and candied fruits
Fresh into being each other's person
But not all fruits can stay ripe forever
And now we are just grapefruits

You sliced me up
Nibbles of affection turned into chomps of opposition
My leafs were falling off
And the rotting made me bitter
I wasn't a sweet little strawberry anymore

We used to be like melons
Wonderfully refreshing and candied fruits
Fresh into being each other's person
But not all fruits can stay ripe forever
And now we are just grapefruits

Some could call it being lemons
But lemons are always bitter
We had sweetness
But it sank into the fruit
And the fruit was our grapefruit hearts
