Chapter 1: Pilot

Green. Its a subtle color, with smooth shades such as emerald, or even jade. Its all I'm surrounded by nearly 24/7, considering I live on the outskirts of Woodland, Oregon. I was born here, raised here, my entire life began here, and I am more than sure it will end here. It's all I've ever known.

Today is July 31st, a grim and cloudy Sunday. I start my first semester at WDU, also known as Woodland University. God, this city is so small, the name of one of its only colleges is the name of the city itself. The other schools name is OBV, Oaks Branch University. The diversity amazes me sometimes.

Staring back at the small rectangular mirror in my bathroom, I take in my appearance. My dark brown matted hair is a complete mess on top of my head, and the thought of even brushing it out makes me wince. The bags underneath my round doe eyes don't help my case out very much, showing just how much of a bad sleeper I am. I was up until 3 am, researching last minute things to do and/or bring to my first day of school, since this will be the first time ever I am completely on my own. No parent, no aunts, no uncles, no one but me and my future roommate, whomever they might be.

I first brush my teeth, already tasting the left over bread and butter bits on my tongue from last nights take out. Oh how I love love love bread and butter. I would cut off my left middle toe, for a lifetime supply of bread and butter. Sue me. I spit out the toothpaste, and wipe my mouth clean. I groan, knowing I now have to brush my hair and make myself presentable. For all I know, I'll run into my first college friend group on my first day, maybe even my future husband. That's how mom and dad met, at least that's what he told me.

"Nymira, I hope your awake honey, you have 2 hours before we have to be at your new dormitory for orientation!"

My eyes widen, and I uttered a simple yet meaningful word.

Shit.

"Yea Dad I'm up I swear I will be ready in less than thirty!" I shout back.

I quickly finish brushing my hair thoroughly deciding to place my thick mane in a slick ponytail, placed on the left side of my head. I quickly gel it down, apply some waves to give it a nice look, and tie it down with my favorite black silky black durag. I wash my face and apply moisturizer on it, so that is shines and doesn't look so dead and gone. I'm so glad I already picked out an outfit before hand, or else I would've really been late. It takes an hour and thirty minutes to get to the college, so I had 15 minutes left to dress, unwrap my hair, and leave. My outfit was simple, yet stylish and cute. Its nearly fall, and its my favorite time of the year by far. The clothing and weather it brings is just downright amazing. I swear I was born for it.

A pair of light blue jeans, with rips up the my thighs, and a black plaid shirt un buttoned with a black tank underneath. I decided to pair it with a silver platted necklace embedded with my name, Nymira, and some silver hooped earrings. My black UGG slippers do me justice in keeping my feet warm and comfortable, and extremally durable in the Oregon weather. Its so bipolar here you could have a rain storm and a heat wave all in the same day in the summer season. Fall and Winter are the only stable seasons, and even then its cold, wet, windy and damn near everything in between.

Slipping my feet into some matching black socks with many horror movie logos, I realize what I am finally about to do. I've dreamt about college since I've learned about careers in the 5th grade. I've always wanted to help people, and do something better with my future where I could thrive for the rest of my life. So after some intense research in school through 5th and 12th grade, I settled on becoming a Child Life Specialist. The perfect balance, where I am a doctor, in a hospital, with kids! What more is there to ask for?

I grab my last little belongings, and I say goodbye to my room. My decked out mess of room, filled with fake vines, plants, movie posters, song lyrics, lights of all kinds, and yes, stuffed animals. I spent my whole life here, and I will miss my space, but I'm ready for what's ahead of me. I'm ready for my new journey.

This is a rough, and I mean ROUGH draft of the first chapter.  A little introduction to our main character, a little backstory. Go easy on me, this is not edited either. Thanks for the read.
