I was back at school and I had to hand in all the work that I completed while being in the hospital. Kids were staring and whispering in the hallways whenever I entered these past few weeks and I'm really sick of it.
"I heard that she was in a car accident." Someone to my left says, as I am getting books from my locker.
"Hey," I slam my locker shut with more force than I intended, "if you're going to talk about someone, make sure they can't hear it."
They were unresponsive so I crutched off down the hallway to my next class. 'God, I hate gossip!' I thought to myself. Then as I was at the end of the hallway I heard them giggling, and one said, "Did you see her face? It was like," I looked back at them and where I stand is supposedly out of earshot. 'How can I hear them from all the way over here?' By the time I got home it didn't bother me as much.
When I got home, I set down my crutches and limped around in my boot. I limped over to the dining table with my backpack then pulled out some homework. Around 3:45 I needed to go to the bathroom so I limped over to the bathroom and did my business, I was washing my hands and looked up in the mirror to see the wall behind me.
"What the fuck?" I cursed under my breath. I thought, 'Visible' and I appeared in the mirror. I thought, 'Invisible' and my body did just that.
"Shit." I turned myself visible again and returned to my homework with this new discovery at the front of my mind. By the time I finished with all my assignments, my Mom pulled into the driveway. I helped her make dinner and the meal was full of laughter. It felt like before the hospital, but with something missing, someone.
"Mom, this is crazy but please don't freak out." I say seriously, then turn myself invisible. She gasps and widens her eyes.
"Holy shit Lex, how did you do that!" Her voice is panicked.
I turn myself visible again before answering her, "My theory is that before the guinea pig exploded that Dad's serum emitted an airborne gas that is in my DNA now. That may be how I survived the explosion. You know this is really crazy but I think this test worked." I say quickly.
"Wait, slow down. Are you saying your Dad's formula worked?" Mom asks, astonished.
"It's just a theory. Don't trust me on that." I say, my voice strained. Mom just nods, processing the new information.
"Keep me posted if there are any other powers that pop up, we don't know if your Dad added anything new to the serum. Like any new powers." Mom says after a few moments of thinking.
"Okay, promise." I say, holding my pinky up. "Does this mean I get to make a suit and save people?"
"We'll see." She says smugly, then winks at me.

A few weeks later, I got my boot taken off and could finally shower without a bag over my foot! But on the other side, I could help people and I have been creating ideas for the suit. I was thinking the theme colors would be navy blue and hints of white.
Later that week, I made a mask and put on some baggy white sweats and I wore a dark blue hoodie as a makeshift suit before I make the real thing with different types of fabrics.
On my daily jog, I was going up a hill and pushed myself to go faster then all of a sudden I was at the top of the hill. I pulled out my phone and dialed my Mom's number.
"Mom, I think that I have the ability of superspeed." I said in a panicked way.
"Okay, can you come over here? I'll bring us to a field and track how fast you can run."
