Jackie placed a piece of chalk on the drawer and wiped her hands. With a smile on her face, she admired her work. A white chalk circle looked impressive on the dark wooden floor. Six white candles burned at its sides, crackling. Her leather diary lay in the middle, opened to the proper page. To create a special, cozy atmosphere, Jackie ensured that the curtains were closed tightly, not letting any daylight in.

With time still before Elisa would return from her classes, Jackie approached the mirror to check her appearance. Her hair had grown a bit since summertime, now reaching her shoulders. Red and golden paper flowers adorned her head – a gift from Laura. To enhance her image, she wore a red cardigan without buttons, revealing her elegant black woolen dress and heart-shaped pendant.

Jackie gave a sad smile to her own reflection. She really wished it could be a real date, but she knew it was impossible. At least she could make it beautiful. Lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice the door opening. She watched Elisa in the mirror, approaching her from behind.

"You look terrific!" Elisa exclaimed in a cheerful voice. "What's the occasion?"

Jackie turned to face her. "It's my turn to give you a present."

"What present?"

Jackie touched her pendant. "Just a little magic."

Elisa looked around the room with suspicion. "I hope this time it's nothing forbidden."

"Don't worry. It's a new spell." Jackie walked to the wardrobe and retrieved her black scarf. "Are you in?"

Without waiting for a response, Jackie stepped into the chalk circle and took a seat. Elisa followed suit, settling on the opposite side.

"And how does it work?" Elisa asked.

"First, use this." Jackie handed her the black scarf. "You must cover your eyes."

Elisa paused, examining the black cloth. It was made of good quality wool, specifically for the guardian's winter uniform. "And what will happen after?" she asked.

"We will read a spell together."

Elisa gave her a hesitant look. "Jackie, I don't want to hurt you –"

"Do you trust me?" Jackie interrupted.

"Of course. It's just –"

"You won't hurt me," Jackie reassured her with a smile. "I know you never will."

Elisa fidgeted. "I'm afraid my Gift might."

"I promise I'll be gentle," Jackie said playfully. "We will proceed with small, cautious steps."

"Fine." Elisa sighed and covered her eyes with the scarf, enveloping herself in darkness.

"What do you see?" Jackie inquired.

"Not a damn thing."

"What do you hear?" Jackie's voice remained calm and confident. "Tell me."

Elisa slowed her breathing, focusing on the sounds around her. "Besides your voice, it's the crackling of the candles."

"Very well. Do you feel their warmth?" Jackie asked.

Elisa shrugged. "Maybe. A little."

"Now, could you notice this warmth with your eyes open?"

"Maybe. If I paid close enough attention," Elisa replied, biting her lip in impatience. "Should I try to blow out the candles now?"

"No, you shouldn't touch the candles."
