A few miserable weeks went by and it was already moving day for Kellin and Monroe. My objective was to stay as far away from Monroe as possible to avoid petty drama and to keep me from kicking his ass, but as you know, the universe always has another plan.
"Baby, I need you to help us get them moved in." My mom was walking around in the kitchen, putting away things and gathering things to put in her purse.
"Momma, I can't I gotta work on this assignment." I lied, hoping she wouldn't see through it.
"You can do it later. This not gone take more than an hour or two. They don't have that much stuff anyway." She picked her keys off the table and grabbed her lavender coat off of the salmon, plastic covered couch. "Come on. We about to be late." She said, opening the front door as I heavily groan. "Boy, don't you groan at me. Don't make me late, now!" She exclaimed from the driveway. I banged my head on the table three times then got up and grabbed my keys as well as my jacket. I could already tell it was going to be a long day. I had hoped I could spend my Friday getting high and messing around with Mila but instead I'd be moving boxes for my new 'Family". I decided to text her and let her know.
I put my phone in my right pocket and got in the crimson red Buick. I put on my seatbelt, feeling eyes on me. I looked up to see my mom starring at me."I'll be good I promise." I reassured her. She ran her hand through my hair with a tender look on her face.
"I know this is hard for you. I'm sorry we sprang it on y'all like that. I didn't think it would happen so quick. But I have a good feeling about him. He makes me feel loved again. Loved by a man who isn't looking for a one night stand."
"Momma, all I want is for you to be happy. If Kellin is what makes you happy, then I'm all for it." I grabbed her hand and held it tight in mine. Tears welled up in her eyes. "But you know the moment he slip up, I'm on that ass." I chuckled as she smacks me lightly on the back of the head.
"You play too much," She laughed, wiping away the lone tear that streamed down her cheek. I rested my hand on her shoulder.
"I'mma try and make it work. Okay?" She nodded happily, turning the key in the ignition.
"Thank you, baby. I can't tell you how much that means to me." She pulled out of the driveway and we spent the rest of the car ride cracking jokes and playing our favorite songs. Somehow, I felt like it would be the last times we would get to do that so I savored the moment. I was a major Momma's boy but I knew I couldn't be the only love of her life forever. I knew eventually she would find a man like Kellin to love her when I left home. I was happy for her but at the same time I felt like it was the end of an era.
