Sweet smells drifted across the quiet suburbs, from the flowers in all the neatly kept gardens.
The pale moonlight made an atmosphere that was peaceful for now as her shoes tapped on the pavement with each step.
His door opened quietly, and Kell was silently welcomed inside. Cool night air swept in with her as she stepped over the threshold.
"Why did you want me to come over Mr. Lurov?" Kell kept her voice low, the silence of the night outside and the stillness of the house inside seemed to mandate it.
"Sorry to call you over so late, but it's important. It's the maze," Lurov answered.
"What about it?"
"It's overstepping the bounds we put on it somehow. It's not just alive now, it's sentient as well."
Kell looked shocked. How did a maze made of hedges gain sentience? Sure, the hedges grew a bit faster than normal ones and made the pattern of the maze by themselves, but sentience?
"So what do you want me to do about it, Lurov? It's not like I helped in making the maze or its bounds."
"We'll see what you can do."
He snapped his fingers.
Flash,
Thunder,
Wind,Rest.
Kell looked around. She was at the entrance of the maze and had no way home.
Before she could decide whether to do her best to go back or continue into the maze, tendrils reached forward and pulled her in by the arms and legs, dumping her on the soft grass inside and barring the way back with thorns.
