Tuesday, the day she met me.
Hair flowing, on fire from the sunlight.
A deep auburn blaze that sets my heart on fire. These feelings will not expire. She smiled, as she did, my body felt tingly, bolts of warmth shot through my body like lightening. The origin of that warmth was unknown.
The cause? Her... Definitely her.
Love at first sight? I always viewed that as a joke, I didn't give it the slightest thought. But she makes me ask, why not?
Water always finds it's level.
What comes up must come down.
Forewarned is forearmed.
My brains a mess, ideas, thoughts, logic, reasoning, processing, everything is slowly being smothered with thoughts of her.Today's the 2nd date and I'm a nervous wreck, several times I changed my outfit, I must have brushed my teeth a dozen times.
The sound of the bell ignites my body, like a firework in my heart and in my ears. My body was poised, anticipative, I fly down the stairs. Feet barely brushing the stairway steps.
Steadying myself, primping as I breathe deeply in....2...3...4...........
Out......2......3.....4....
I'm the beast, the man, the superhero of this movie scene. I got this.I lavishly open the door.
"Hey cutie, I wanted to-"
Two men in their mid 40's, rain dripping off of their yellow rain jackets, zipped halfway, revealing their badges.
Their faces somber, eyes sorrowful and full of empathy. They turn their heads to face one another- a moment's hesitation - neither one not wanting to burden the kid with this heavy sadness he's now still unaware of.The slightly taller one clears his throat.
" Mr. Chunwick, are you alone?"
I step back, unsure and unnerved by the question, the two men in front of me sure are dressed as cops-. Yet....
" Sorry, Mr-"
" Thomas", the word exploded from my lips, " You can call me tom, and yes... My parents are at the grocery store". Something inexplicably tells me to lie.
"Thomas," the other guy speaks, " Tom, can we come in." More of a demand and not a question, his affirmative tone is borderline aggressive.I step back letting them invade further into the mudroom, aptly named since both men are soiling the floor.
" Please, have a seat Thomas, there was a situation that we'd need you to discuss with you." He looks at the other one, the hesitation repeating again.
" It has to do with Carolyn, we're friends of her dad, and we were the responding officers, first on the scene.
At the request of her dad, we unfortunately have to inform you that." The cop pauses, a tear rolls down his cheek, his Adams apple bobs as a swallows down a sob.
"Carolyn is at the hospital," the other cop interjects, " she's... stable but we were told her condition could get worse at any time.
