- Part 1 takes place in Lukas's and Lilah's apartment. -
Lukas sat there, determined to make out the smaller words in the image. Just as he thought he could read what the picture said, Lilah burst into the room shouting "Yesss! I found it!"
"Found what?" Lukas responded
"I found my favorite plushie!" She squealed
"Woooow, you sound like a toddler," Lukas said, half-jokingly.
"Shut up nerd," Lilah said rolling her eyes and pouting. She knew he was only joking but that didn't make her any less upset at his response.
"Yea, well at least I don't look like I just woke up." was Lukas's reply
"B-but I did just wake up..."
"Oh. Well, then you look good I guess."
"Erm... Thanks," she said. She was unsure if he actually meant that or not, but she was still thinking about her stuffed animal and didn't care to think about it anymore. "Anyways, I was gonna tell you I found the bird I lost last year."
"Oh! You found Marty! Why didn't you say so!" Lukas gave that bird plushie to her a couple of years ago, but Lilah forgot where she put it after a road trip to North Carolina to see family last year in June.
"I was going to, but you cut me off!" Lilah answered
"Sorry. But where was he? I thought we left him in NC."
"He was at the bottom of my blue suitcase!"
"Oh, so we've had him this whole time?"
"Pretty much. He's kinda smelly 'cause he was under my dirty clothes though. I guess I didn't see him when I was unpacking."
"Yea... Go ahead and throw him in the washer with our clothes."
"Sure thing." Lilah then left the room and went back to cleaning. Lukas returned to the picture he was staring at on his phone. it was a picture of a poster for a party Lilah sent to him earlier, but the details in the picture were too small and looked blurred on his iPhone. He was about to ask Lilah to come back into the living room and tell him what it said when he heard a knock on the door. "Who is it?" shouted Lukas.
"Pizza delivery man!" answered the person on the other side of the door. Lukas didn't remember calling for a pizza. Assuming Lilah ordered it he thought nothing more of it and went to answer the door. When he opened the door and realized the truth, he wished it really was the pizza guy. "Heyo!" Mateo said. Mateo was Lukas's classmate in their junior and senior year of high school and was now bringing all his stuff into his apartment.
"Mateo, what are you doing here, especially without pizza?" Lukas queried.
"Oh, well I've got my bags and stuff and-"
"OH! Right, come on in. But I thought you were coming next week."
"No, Lilah said I could do it today 'cause you guys were home and weren't busy."
"Makes sense, but I'm leaving at uh..." Lukas had to glance at the image on his phone again to try and make out the time of the party. "8pm, I think, for a party at some dude's place."
"Oh cool, can I be your plus one?" Mateo questioned.
"Well Lilah's my plus one of course. But it's not like a wedding or anything, I can just take you with us, it's not like you really have to be invited."
"Oh, okay cool. By the way, can you help me bring the rest of my stuff in? It's just another box and bag or so."
"Alright, let's go." So, Lukas and Mateo headed downstairs to Mateo's car to get the rest of his stuff for his room. After Lilah finished putting the laundry into the washing machine, she walked into the living room to see who had knocked on the door, only to find Lukas gone and no one else there. Lilah shrugged and went back into her room to lay back down.
"Alright, I'll get this and this, and maybe this..." Lukas trailed off as he struggled to carry as many boxes as he could into the apartment building. Mateo was only carrying one small bag because Lukas decided to grab everything. "Need a hand there, bud?" Mateo asked.
"Nah, I-I've got i-it."
"Okay. If you say so." After a few mishaps along the way both boys arrived back up at the apartment door now each carrying some of the boxes. They set everything down next to the front door and Lukas said "Alright, your room is the door at the end of the hall." Pointing to the hallway next to them. "Thanks, I'm gonna get all my stuff unpacked now." Mateo replied. "Good, it's... 3:20pm right now so you have a few hours to get everything done and then get ready for the party, it's gonna be like a 30-minute drive to get there." Mateo just nodded and started dragging bags and boxes back into the room with him. Lukas went to check on Lilah and saw her sleeping. "That's what happens when you stay up all night." Lukas muttered to himself. He then turned on the tv so he could watch Netflix for a while.
After Mateo spent hours finishing most of the unpacking, he took a shower. Lukas spent a while watching tv and was now getting ready. Soon he woke up Lilah and told her it was almost time to leave, and she started getting dressed. "Wow, that was the best nap I've had in a while." Lilah pointed out, half asleep.
Not much later, all three roommates got into the car and started driving to this party hosted by a guy Lilah only met a few times. Neither Lukas nor Mateo had seen this person before and didn't even know his name. After about 40 minutes of driving, (stupid traffic) they pulled onto the street the house was at and parked in front of it. There were a ton of lights and people were pouring out into the yard because there wasn't enough space in the house to hold everyone. The three got out of the car and got ready to embrace some good times.
