"Run"-Those were her exact thoughts. "Run, don't let them get you." she said to herself. Out of breath and discouraged, Emberwings lifted her wings abruptly and started to flap. It wasn't a graceful sight, but it did the trick. She lifted off the ground-and flew. Yes, she could fly. A cat, that could fly... It was rare-or so they said-that any creature other than the birds or dragons were to have wings. She was made fun of when she was a kit because of this.... Her mother would always tell her she was special...it didn't sound genuine-but it kept her going. Her father...well, she didn't really have one...her mom would say that he left them....and that's it..no explanation....nothing. End of discussion. Emberwings focused. She didn't want to run into a tree, again. She was clumsy as heck. But at least she was brave. The spotted cat flew swiftlt but carefully avoiding the foliage and branches swirling around her. She couldn't be caught. She didn't want to think of what they would try to do to her after what she'd done. She shivered at the thought. "just get to the waterfall." she whispered as encouragement to herself. "then you're safe."
