Diane is a girl.
She is a down-to-earth, old fashioned, artistic girl who is content with life and enjoys the moment here and now. At the age of 16, school basically rules her life, and she can't find a part time job anywhere, let alone get enough money to buy all the things that her friends have.
All of her friends know how much she wishes to become a musician and live out her dream of becoming famous, but she can't see it happening because of her mother's financial issues. She and her mother live in a tired house with a sagging porch, yet they never complain. Diane has realized how unimportant material things are, because it isn't about how big your television is, it's about who is around it.
Diane Allison Freemont always lived in Richmond, Virginia until the day came when the government thought it best for her to attend a boarding school by the name of Maddox School, located in Mill Hill, London. It is the last place she wants to be, because she knows that she will stand out. She always does.
Throughout her entire life, Diane has been the well-known-but-not-quite-popular girl, especially in school. While all the other girls are sleeping with their boyfriends and starving themselves to death, Diane strums her guitar and writes songs of dreams and love while sipping chai tea lattes at Starbucks.
By now, you probably think Diane is an indie type of girl who defies fashion laws, yet you could not be more wrong. Ordinary clothes and an ordinary life awaits her around every corner, but opportunities play hide and seek.
One characteristic of Diane sets her apart from many other girls. Twisting around her neck is a scar from a burn. Most of the time, she disguises her blemish behind a curtain of hair. It is the one thing she is self conscious about. Many have asked what the scar is from, but her eyes merely go blank and she changes the subject.
When it comes to the matter of boys, Diane is the one playing hide and seek. When a boy speaks to her, she smiles, she laughs when they joke, she has something to say, and she is not bad looking at all.
But she does not wear the mini skirts. She does not screw around with anyone, and she does not understand why everything has to be so dramatic when it comes to relationships. Every time a boy talks to her, it is like they are expecting something, like for her to talk to him like she is on a lower level than him.
And Diane hates that.
