Steve stood up from where he was sitting in the clearing, he grabbed his phone and made his way out of the woods. It was later in the day and the crowds of people at the lake had dwindled down to just a few scattered groups. He made his way to the edge of the water, he took off his shoes and sock. Steve sat with his feet just barely in the water, he sat there for only a few minutes before his phone rang which broke him out of his thoughts. He pulled his phone from his pocket and answered it with a confused "Hello?'

The caller was Steve's mom, she was calling to tell him that she and his dad would be gone longer than they had originally planned so they would be stopping by on Monday to replenish their supplies and wash their laundry. "Oh okay, mom that sounds like a good plan, love yo-" the call was disconnected before he could finish telling his mom he loved her.

Steve sighed and pulled his feet out of the water, He slipped his socks and shoes back on before making his way back to his car. He unlocked his car and threw his phone on the passenger's seat before climbing into the driver's seat. He closed the door and leaned his head back against the headrest. Steve put the key into the ignition and started his car, he wasn't sure where he was going but he ended up going back home. He parked on the street in front of his house, something he always did when he knew his parents would be home soon. He walked back into his house and started to tidy up the house. it wasn't terribly dirty because he and his parents liked to keep it clean, not that his parents were ever home long enough to even make a mess, and Steve had the habit of cleaning up after himself.

Once the house was tidy enough Steve made his way upstairs to his room. When he got into his room he hung his backpack up on a hook that was behind the door because the day before he had not done so. He sat down at his desk in hopes of finishing the homework he didn't complete yesterday. He worked his way through all of the subjects that he had left English and Math. Steve set his pen down on the desk and stood up, he walked over to his backpack and put his finished homework away. He sat down on his bed and then shot back up, "shit I left my phone in the car." he exclaimed aloud even though there wasn't another person in the room with him.

Steve raced back downstairs and out to his car where he quickly unlocked and opened the passenger's side door he grabbed his phone and as he was locking his car one of his neighbors came outside and made their way over to where Steve was. "Oh hey Mrs. Smith, how are you on this fine day?" Steve inquired happily making small talk.

"I am wonderful dearie. May I ask, when are your parents going to be back?" His elderly neighbor Mrs. Smith responded to Steve.

Steve smiled and ran a hand through his hair which gave him a second to think before responding, "My mother said that they would be stopping by on Monday to replenish their supplies as well as to wash their laundry." He stated in a very factual manner.

Mrs. Smith nodded in response to Steve. If he was being honest she was his favorite neighbor, she used to check in on Steve when he was home alone when he was younger and her visits usually meant that she baked cookies. Now that Steve was older she mostly stopped by to teach him new recipes or to drop off the occasional homemade meal. Steve gave her one of his rare true smiles. He motioned towards his house, "I'm sorry but I really must be heading inside." he said apologetically.

"Oh, I'm sorry sweetie. I will see you later" Mrs. Smith replied with a smile.

Steve watched her walk away before he walked back up to his house. Once he was inside he walked into the kitchen and started to prepare something for dinner. He settled on making a simple chicken sandwich, something even he couldn't fuck up at least according to his father. When he had finished making the sandwich he sat down at the countertop bar. He ate his food and just took in the silence that seemed to settle deep down into the very core of the house. Steve cleaned up the mess that had accumulated from his eating. Once he had finished cleaning the crumbs he stretched and headed back upstairs to his room. Once he got back into his room he flopped down onto his bed.
