The council had, for lack of a better word, found out about it.
To say they were less than impressed was an understatement. Yoda had actually shown something akin to mild anger on his for once and Mace, well... Mace acted very Mace Windu about the whole thing. The other council members faces had altogether made Anakin want to burst into fits of laughter and tears all at the same time because of course they would react exactly like he thought they would.
"Outrageous, this is." Yoda said, disappointment dripping in his voice as he looked Obi-Wan up and down as though he was confused how a Master of such high regards could fall so far in such little time.
But the truth was, Obi-Wan had been falling since he first started loving Anakin as more than his family. He was just lucky enough to not be swayed by the dark side as the council feared anyone with attachments would. Obi-Wan's love for Anakin was pure and born from seeing them both grow into men together. Of maturing together, of always being together. It wasn't just something sexually induced, of course he liked the sex, but it wasn't about the sex.
It was about how he felt the Force light up like the first rays of sunlight through darkness whenever he saw Anakin's smile directed his way. It was about the way he ached whenever Anakin had to leave on a mission without him. His love for Anakin was the rain that dripped from black feathers, the flutter of a soft breeze over green grass, the soft smell of distant thunder and lighting in the air... The taste of sweet velvet lips after they've eaten chocolate.
Master, your thoughts are projecting, I'm sure they can all feel it right now. Anakin's thoughts intercepted Obi-Wan's and he found himself clearing his throat, pushing the deep seated love he felt into the Force, at least for the time being, long enough to do what he planned the moment they were both summoned.
For the past two weeks, the council had separated them in all missions. Anakin had almost crushed R2 and 3PO in his anger at seeing the comm telling them they were being sent to opposite sides of the galaxy. Their bond had suffered and it almost physically hurt when they finally came back to each other, the bond reconnecting like the frayed ends of a wire...
"They can't be serious, they've never split us up before, they know how well we work together why in Sith hells would they split us up now?" Anakin's voice was shaking and his face was clouded with dark energy. His eyes were murderous.
"I do not know, but I must admit... I have a bad feeling about this." Obi-Wan admonished, eyes glancing back and forth in thought. Anakin felt his anger drop for just that of a moment at the famous words of his former master and he felt a sharp toothed smile tug at his lips.
"I guess I'm not surprised. I get the feeling that they're personally trying to piss me off though."
Obi-Wan felt the Force bend and shift around them at his chosen mate's anger, his wings spread down and open to try and soothe Anakin. Those four black wings were ruffled and rigid as the ice on Ilum.
For a while now, the council and other Jedi in the temple had been acting weird. Many had gone quiet whenever he or Anakin were seen together in passing, and with anxious thoughts shared between the two of them, they could only imagine why. The padawans whispered when they saw them, their young eyes showing jealousy or something akin to longing more often than not. It made Anakin's wings want to stretch out in front of Obi-Wan protectively a lot of the time, but he had to fight the instinct, because things were becoming tense enough. The Force was dark and foreboding up until they both were getting ready to ship off to opposite sides of the galaxy.
"I don't want to leave. I don't want to miss your touch, your smell, when I could just have it with me all the time." Anakin whispered agains the nape of his former master's neck.
