Gabriella’s POV
5 years later
“Gabriella! Wake up!” someone shouted while pounding on my bedroom door. I groaned and looked at the clock on my bedside table. Why was someone trying to wake me up at 6 in the morning? “It’s 6 in the morning! Go away!” I shouted back. I closed my eyes and tried to fall back asleep, but whoever was at my door wouldn’t stop knocking. “Fine. I guess we’re doing this the hard way.” The person said. My door opened, and my lights were turned on. “Get up.” The person said. I opened my eyes to glare at the person, and saw my best friend, Jane, looking down at me. “Go away Jane.” I mumbled into a pillow.
“Aro wants you dressed and downstairs in the throne room in 10 minutes.” Jane told me. I looked up at her. “Why does daddy want me up so early?” I asked. I should probably explain the ‘daddy’ thing. When I was a baby, my birth parents left me outside of Volterra Castle when I was a couple days old. Aro decided to adopt me and train me to be a member of the Guard. As I got older, I learned to call Aro papà, daddy in Italian, when talking to him. If I was talking about him, I said daddy or dad.
“I don’t know. He just told me to wake you up.” Jane answered. I sighed and crawled out of bed. “You’re so helpful Jane.” I mumbled sarcastically as I walked over to my closet. “What should I wear?” I asked while looking through my closet. “Clothes.” Jane answered sarcastically. I turned and glared at her. “Helpful.” I said. I turned back to my closet and grabbed a pair of jean shorts that stopped mid thigh and a black tank top. I turned around and showed the clothes to Jane. “Do you think I’ll get in trouble if I wear this?” I asked. Jane raised an eyebrow at me. “Since when do you care about getting in trouble?” She asked. “Since never. I’m gonna get dressed.” I said. Just as I started walking over to the bathroom connected to my bedroom someone knocked at my door. “Hurry up you two! Aro wants you downstairs now!” Alec yelled through the door. “Shut up Alec!” Jane and I shouted back in unison. We looked at each other and started laughing. “You two are idiots.” We hear Alec mumble. “Yeah, but we’re idiots who could hurt you!” I yelled at him. “Shut up and get dressed.” He said. I shook my head as I walked into the bathroom. This was a normal morning for me, so I was pretty used to it.
I got dressed quickly and looked at myself in the mirror. People always told me I was beautiful, and I guess I was. I wasn’t vampire beautiful, but I was still prettier that a normal human would be. I was a skinny girl of average height, with tan skin and long, straight, dark hair. The only non-human feature of mine was the dark red rim around my dark brown eyes. My dad thinks the rim only shows up because of my vampire diet. Yeah, I live off of human blood. I used to think that was weird since I was half human, but now it just seems normal.
I walked out of my bathroom and saw that Jane wasn't in my room anymore. I shrugged. She probably went down to the throne room. I walked over to my closet again. I looked at the large collection of shoes on the floor of my closet before deciding on a pair of black Converse high tops. I put them on quickly before walking to my bedroom door. I stop in front of it and pick up the necklace that's hanging on the doorknob. I looked down at the necklace that I held in my hands, the Volturi crest necklace. Jane said my dad gave it to me the day the found me. I always wore it. Always. If I didn't have my necklace on I felt strange, like I was missing a part of me. I put my necklace on and run downstairs to the throne room.
"Nice of you to finally show up." Jane said as I walking into the throne room. "It is, isn't it?" I ask while smirking at her. She scowled at me, clearly not amused by my sarcasm. I turn my attention to my dad and Uncles Marcus and Caius. "Papà. Zii. Jane ha detto che voleva vedermi." (Daddy. Uncles. Jane said you wanted to see me.) I said in Italian. Caius nodded in approval of the Italian. Dad was the first to respond.
"We do. Would you mind going on a mission for us before your birthday, my dear?" My dad asked me. A mission?!?! Was he serious?! One thing my dad rarely let me do was go on missions for the guard. He always thought they were too dangerous and I was too fragile. "Yes! I mean no. I wouldn't mind at all." I say quickly, stumbling over my words. I hear Jane and the rest of the guard members in the room laugh. I glare at Jane, quieting her and the rest of the guard follows her lead.
"Never agree to anything without hearing what in entails." Marcus chastised. I blushed, forgetting how serious Marcus could get.
"It is fine, brother. She knows I would never send her to do anything dangerous." Dad said, soothing Marcus.
"What exactly would I be doing?" I ask my dad curiously.
"Simple. We need you to pay a visit to the Cullen family."
