He followed her silently, listening to her talk, "Since you are all better now I have decided to take you to one of the most useful, and my favorite place in this forest!"
Somehow she was always quite joyful, never sorrowful or angry in a way.
At first, in the few days when he had been confined to rest he hadn't been sure what to make of her.
She would bring him food and sometimes she would talk, he hadn't known how much she could actually talk, but mentally he had decided that this trait of hers, was endearing, rather than annoying.
He had been cautious at first, wondering why she would care for him, but sometimes, as she had taught him, one needed no reason at all.
Her voice snapped him back to the trail, except now she was fifteen feet high above him, sitting contently in an apple tree.
"Catch!"
His eyes widened, and he frantically tried to move his arms around, except the apple fell onto a rock which outlined the path, and was quite literally squashed.
"Ooooooooo.... Maybe in the coming years we will have two apple trees, I tried planting an apple once, but it never grew, I have no idea why. Anyways, wanna try again?"
Second chances were almost impossible in life, if you failed the first time, you most likely would never be able to try again.
This time the apple landed squarely in his hands, and he heard her cheer.
"They are very crunchy and SWEET! I plan on making some jam to store for winter, do you want help me, since I don't think I can make enough for two."
He nodded, and somehow she could see the small gesture despite being seated on the branches of the tree, happily munching on an apple.
"Ohhh, could you grab the basket next to you? We will have to make several trips, we can fill it up and Mori will bring it home."
His voice sounded rough compared to her soft but quick words.
"Is this your favorite place?"
Her eyes, looked as if they widened even more.
"You finally talked again!"
The first time he had spoken, had been to give her his name.
"Can I call you Kai?"
He wondered why she was so friendly before nodding.
"YAY!"
A smile etches across her face, as he contemplates her personality.
"Also to answer your question, No, not yet, it is a small bit further down the path. anyways, do you have the basket?"
-
She held his hand in her own, grinning happily and humming a little song, leading him down the path.
