KINGDOM PALACE.
The ruling king is seated uneasily at the feet of his throne with a million thoughts tingling and boiling in his mind. He has just received scorching news for him to take in at the moment. He has been affirmed too that there will be a new ruler to reign over his kingdom. He drinks from his cup and throws it away. A maid servant quickly comes to pick it away. As she goes away, he stations her there as his cup filler and she stays beside his throne. He gets up from the feet of his throne and sits in his throne this time and orders the cup filler just by looking at her to do the needful and she obliges. He mumbles like a child to himself with his fingers tingling against each other. He drinks from his cup at once and empties swiftly and places it back on the side table. Unable to find answers on his own, he calls out for his elite soldiers who come running at once and kneel before him.
KING GUSTEIN
I have been informed that there is some child to be born to over throw me from this my throne and yet he is not going to be from my bloodline. So listen to me carefully, I want you to gather all the wise and learned people in this kingdom and beyond and bring them before me to explain such disturbing news that is putting me on tenterhooks. Get them here before the sun reaches the center of the sky or I shall spew my wrath upon all of you!
The elite soldiers nod in agreement and exit the palace at once. He looks at the cup filler and she has already filled his cup. He gets it and gallops down its contents.SCENE II
KINGDOM PALACE
King Gustein is in his throne in company of his beautiful queen: Lucrishian who is enchanted in excessive jewelry and very expensive fabrics and a priceless crown on her head. Her hair is as long as the Nile river. The both of them are having a fruit meal together as they wait for their lunch meal to be served. There are two servants fanning them both from either side on their knees. In that moment, the alpha of his elite forces returns with news and falls before them on his knees.
QUEEN LUCRISHIAN
Rise faithful soldier. (He obeys and stands before them.) I am told you were tasked to do something very important for my husband and your king.
ALPHA SOLDIER
(While nodding.) Yes your Highness.
LUCRISHIAN
Well?’
ALPHA SOLDIER
The people are here your highness and your majesty. We only got those that had elaborated information about the matter. They were but only a handful.
KING GUSTEIN
(Shouting at them authoritatively.) Bring them in right away you before I even start having thoughts of slitting your throat.
ALPHA SOLDIER
Yes your Majesty.
(He leaves in heist and goes to gather the learned informants. Shortly after, he returns with them in his keep accompanied by a couple of armed soldiers. They gently bow before the king and the queen in humility.
KING GUSTEIN
(In wonder and discontentment.) Are these all you could find in the entire kingdom and beyond?
ALPHA SOLDIER
Yes your majesty. The rest were unscrupulous and merely empty gongs and bells with no clarity on the matter. These were the finest we could gather. They are four and few yet their knowledge cannot be weighed and measured by any of us. If they fail you, then I shall lay down my sword so you can strike me for being incompetent.KING GUSTEIN
(He looks at them individually for a while) Go on then. What do I need to know? (They all freak out on who to go first. They turn to themselves and begin to mumble audible but unheard by the king and the queen.) I am losing my patience. (He gets up on his feet and they quickly in fear stand in one row before him.)
DRISUS
(Clearing his throat with false confidence.) My king, if I may… um… about this whole rumor that reached your ears rudely, there is actual truth to it your majesty. (He looks at him vividly.) Many years ago before our forefathers were even formed, those that came before those and those before them had a prophesy written down by some of the ancient prophets: Isaiah being the most popular one in as the one who accounted for this prophesy in one of his holy scrolls and writings. He prophesied of a ruler and messiah to come to rule the world. Not only your kingdom your majesty.
DOMINICUS
Other prophets too accounted on the similar prophesy; Micah and among many other minors that count up over forty.
QUEEN LUCRISHIAN
So, this Isaiah prophet, how accurate can we say his word was? Because if he wrote such mockery of the future, I am guessing that the years were recorded as well.
XEXTUS
You are right your highness. My king, if I may add on to my fellow scholars of the ancient scrolls and literature. (The king nods in agreement as he returns to his throne.) Isaiah lived and wrote his works in the year 745-727 under the rule of King Tiglath-Pileser III. And he was very specific that it would be a son born of virgin low life woman. How that will happen is a mystery all of us cannot decipher to date.
KING GUSTEIN
(Drinking from his cup, he bends forth with one arm planted on his lap.) How then can we escape or end this prophesy because clearly I will not allow a non-Gustein to rule my people?
GAYAHS
My king, I am afraid these words cannot be escaped until they have come to pass. We estimate that surely this so called virgin birthed boy will live among us and in this kingdom. If we let him be born, we can know who he is and who the parents are. And then there… (The queen bulges into his statement.)
QUEEN LUCRISHIAN
(While looking at his husband wickedly.) We can kill him and he never gets to grow old enough to even walk. (She turns back to Gayahs.) You are a genius Gayahs.
KING GUSTEIN
Genius indeed.
GAYAHS
(While bowing down before the both of them.) Thank you your Majesty and your Highness.
KING GUSTEIN
You all have till sunrise tomorrow to orchestrate a perfect scheme to bone and flesh Gayahs’ intelligent thought. Now leave us to ourselves at once and pass by my treasurer for your small allowance. And spend it not foolishly or else I will know. And stay away from your wives till my solution is at my table.
(They bow down in respect and randomly express their gratitude and leave the palace humbly.)
The king and his wife proceed eating their fruit meal and drink merrily as the servants continue funning them.
