after that night in the moonlight inn, frank had gained a bit of a following. he was taking more and more jobs in bigger places, teenage girls would sell out the whole place for him. loretta couldn't help the jealousy that she would feel in her heart at every one of his performances, seeing packs of girls drooling over the boy really got to her.

but she tried to push down her own feelings, trying to just be happy for frank and his new found recognition. he truly deserved it and she knew it. but she couldn't help but sense that he was slipping away from her.

a gasp filled the small convenient store as darlene's eyes fell upon the magazine rack. "take a look at this!" she tugged loretta's sleeve gently, dragging her over. there sat a glossy magazine, her best friend's face plastered on the cover. "frank?" the name left her lips as she picked up the booklet gently, running a slim finger over his complexion.

she stared at it lovingly for a moment, declaring he looked immensely handsome as usual. then she remembered darlene had been watching her, "he never told me about this" loretta muttered quietly, breaking the silence. "this is huge! he's really making it big time now, isn't he?" darlene asked happily, a beaming smile on her face.

"yes he is.. i'm so proud of him" loretta sighed, content in her breath. "say where is he? i haven't seen him around" darlene asked as they made their way up to the cashier, magazine clutched in hand. "he's in new york for a little while, he got a few big gigs there this month" she answered, it almost pained her to say it.

the heavy absence of her favorite person really saddened loretta despite her knowing the success he was beginning to have. she knew it was selfish of her, but she couldn't help but hold the fear that he would become too big and forget about her.

loretta stood in front of her slim gold bordered mirror as it sat in the corner of the room. she twirled around, admiring the way she looked in her light pink graduation dress. the soft pearls around her neck accompanied it beautifully.

"loretta, we're leaving in five minutes!" her father's voice commanded from downstairs. with a quick sigh she slipped her graduation robe over her dress, her eyes glanced toward the hat on her dresser. "god, i'll ruin my hair!" she huffed to herself, lightly touching her curls before placing the hat on her head carefully.

thankfully the car ride over to the high school was short, considering loretta's mother and father ended up in a screaming match while in the small car. there was never a moment where they weren't fighting like cats and dogs, loretta was sick of it.
