So they seriously don't have any suspects?"

"The closest they've ever gotten was Man by the name of William Afton, one of the co-owners of the original pizzeria I think, but there was not enough evidence to convict him."

Throughout the conversation Dave had been glancing back-and-forth around my drab living room but when I mentioned William he immediately really focused his gaze on me. Throughout my years as a detective I had learned to pick up on the subtle details in faces and I instantly knew he knew something about William. I just needed to pry a little.
"Did you ever know Mr. Afton?"

"What?" Dave looked shocked, almost offended that I would ask him such a question.

"Mr. Afton, did you know him?"

Dave studied the question in his mind, his silver eyes darting around the the room. After a few moments of looking like a deer caught in the headlights he finally responded.

"William Afton died years ago." He responded completely monotone. Not a single annunciation in a word he spoke. This sent shivers down my spine.

"What?"

"Did I stutter? William Afton is dead."

"How...how did he die?"

"Suicide, he put himself inside one of the spring locked suit, he couldn't handle the amount of the murder that surrounded his own establishment I guess."

"Huh.. I guess that makes sense, but how do you find out? William's been missing for years and suddenly you've just known that he committed suicide, i'm not going to lie Dave that's suspicious."

"Jesus Christ I'm not admitting to murder I found out the way most people find out about this shit, a note."

I guess that made sense but all that left was just a single question on my mind.

"Do you still have the note?"

"Yeah I think so."

"Can I see it?"

I followed Dave as he took me on a tour throughout his....well I guess you could call it a house. It was clear that he's been avoiding this place for a long time.

There were pictures of what seemed to be a happy family hung around the house similar to mine. Christmases, Halloweens, Family vacations etc, and Dave looked happy in every single one of them with a sort of smile that I have never really seen on him. I continued walking down the hall after Dave and something was changing in the pictures. The first few had a family of five including him his wife his two sons and a younger daughter but in the later pictures the Family started to dwindle. First his youngest son disappeared and then his daughter and then finally his oldest. Every Portrait lock tomorrow haunting than the last as if the genuine joy behind the smiles was melting away. Dave never answered any questions related to his past and now I'm starting to see why.
I wish I could say that's when the strangeness stopped but it wasn't.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a small childlike I figure run across the hall. Godamn this whole child thing it's really starting to get to my head.

I kept walking down the hall trying to process what I just saw until I bumped directly into Dave. He flinched and eyed me curiously. Huh, he must've stopped a while ago and I just didn't notice. I laughed it off trying to appear like I had not just seen a ghost. It didn't work.

"You really are the clumsiest person alive Y/N"

I gave him a look before I realized that he's probably right.

"Yeah yeah whatever now are you gonna look for that....that.....that-". Why couldn't I find the word.

"The note."

"Yeah."

"It astounds me that you made it this far as a detective, anyway the note should be down in there." He sloppily gestured down to the basement.

"Ok look I swear this sounds suspicious but you gotta trust me on this you don't wanna go down there, I'll nab it and bring it back up."

So he's telling me that this supposed note that would include critical information for my case is down in his basement that is completely shroud and darkness and he doesn't want me to go in with him. I could only just admire his stupidity.

"Dave you realize who you're talking to right?"

" I can assure you there is nothing else related to this case in the basement the only reason I don't want you coming down in is because..... it's a bit embarrassing that's all."

"It's fine but if I think you're taking too long I will go down to check it out myself"

Dave rolled his eyes at me and started heading for his "suspicious" basement.
I sat down by the door and kept a good eye on my watch. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock

I waited and waited and waited and still he didn't come out. The friend part of me wanted to make sure I respected his privacy but the detective part of me urged to go in. There was a possibility he could've been erasing evidence so I grabbed my flashlight, opened the door and walked down for myself. I climbed down the stairs carefully as to not accidentally fall and break a bone. Somehow this place seemed more ominous than the rest of the house. Dave was definitely hiding something. My feet tread lightly across the stone floor keeping my flashlight in front of me. Unfortunately it didn't illuminate much. The more I walked the more I felt my breath become shallow. Even compared to the restaurant this was the darkest room I had ever been in. Everywhere around me was completely silent. It didn't make sense, had Dave already gone back upstairs while I had been scouting.
Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!
Someone was behind me.
"Didn't I tell you to stay out!"
The frustrated voice sent shivers down my spine is a whipped around with my flashlight to see Dave.

"What the hell are you hiding here!"
I screamed at him.

I heard his steps back up away from me.
"Jesus Christ Y/N calm the fuck down you're gonna scare the shit out of my neighbors!"

"No Dave! I want to see exactly what the fuck you're hiding here and you are going to show me whether you like it or not!"
I tried to keep my voice steady despite the fear that was pounding throughout my whole body. At this point I didn't even want to see whatever he had in here, but if it was anything that could help with my case I had to know.

"Ok fine if I show you will you stop screaming at me!"

"Fine."

I heard a sigh escape his lips and the click of a light switch.  I was only blinded for a moment before I saw the room that lay in front of me. It's definitely wasn't what I expected.
