A Twisted Tale

A groggy Avni woke up to Neil speaking with the doctor.

Doc: Yes, plenty of rest would do and don't forget to give food and medications on time. If that's all, I will be leaving Mr.Khanna.

Thank you Doctor. Neil said this and turned around to see Avni trying to sit on the bed.

Neil: Avni aaram se.

Avni: What happened to me?

Neil: Woh just stress tha. Too much stress for two days on top of ylur already pregnant body, made you faint. The doctor has prescribed some meds and also asked to take your food on time.

Avni: Yeaaah... I heard that part.

Neil: Woh.. Avni I'm sorry. I should not have...

Avni: Nahi Neil. It was not your fault. Main hin bina wajah tumpe ilzam laga rahe the. You were very logical....

Neil: No Avni... I should have tried to be calmer....

Avni: Offooo. Bas. Hum dono iske baare no more talking. Ok?

Neil just bobbed his head and asked her whether she was ready to go back. When she nodded, he helped her out of the bed and after all the formalities were done, they were driving back home. It was dark outside, as it was almost 8.

Neil, who was feeling a bit guilty about the earlier incident, decided to surprise her with a sorry dinner. He decided to drive to a resataurant on the outskirts, so that no one would easily recognize them.

Avni: Neil, hum kaha jaa rahe ho? We missed the turn to my home right now...

Neil: Shh... Relax. I'm not kidnapping you, so relax. And we're going on a date.

Avni: Date?? Mathlab

Neil: Arey Avni!! Date ka mathlab DATE hi hota hai. Hum koi restaurant mein jaenge, dinner karenge baatein karenge vagera vagera....
You get it.

Avni: Idiot! Mujhe Date kya hota hai pata hai. But hum kyun date pe jaa rahe ho??

Neil: Tublight kahi ki!

Avni: Youuu.... Take that back!

Neil: No?

Avni: I said take that back varna

Neil: Varna kya? Huh.... Main dar gaya please mujhe koyi bachao....

Avni: Neillll.... Please stop irritating me.

Neil: Maine kya kiya..... Kuch bhi nahi kiya, aise hi baat kar raha tha.. Aur tum ho ki gusse naak pe chade hoo...

Main tumse baat hi nahi karungi... Avni huffed and turned the other side.

Avni was silent for the rest of the ride and Neil too didn't talk much other than the occasional calling of her name just to irritate her.
 

After a half an hour ride, Neil parked the car in front of a cozy looking restaurant on the outskirts of the city. The restaurant had a nice homey feeling a serene atmosphere around it that one wold feel calm and peace just by looking at it. Neil opened the door for her and helped her out. Avni being stubborn, refused his hand and came out herself.

Arey yaar sorry na. Date pe aaye hai hum and tum mujhse baat bhi nahi karoge to yaha aake kya faayda?

Yeh to tumhare saza hai. Aage se mujhe irritate bhi mat karna.

Please na. I'm really sorry. Main to bas mazak hi kar raha tha tumse. Please .

No..

I promise I will buy you your favourite dessert today. Pakka promise.

Really? Avni asked like an excited child.

Of course wifey. Tum jo chahoge main wahi laake dunga tumhe.

Ok toh maaf kar diya. Lekin mujhe mera favourite dessert laana bhoolna mat.

Okay wifey. Kya chahiye tumhe dessert main.. Wait pehle kuch toh kha lete hai, phir dessert pe chalte hai. Suna hai ki yahan ka kebab bahut hi achha hai. How about we try some?

Okay ab chalo na andar. Yaha to bahut tand lagti hai mujhe.

Wait, shayad mere jacket hoge gaadi mein. Main abhi dekhke aata hu. Okay.

Hmmm.....

Neil noticed that they had almost reached the entrance of the restaurant by then and looking around he could see some riff-raff roaming around. He immediately rushed to his car and got the jacket and rushed back to Avni and made her wear it. Thankfully the riff-raffs hadn't approached or disturbed her which was good for their own health.

They both took a seat and ordered. Light pleasant chat about their life followed till the food arrived, with a soothing song playing in the background. It felt too good and nice and they continued their chat while they ate. They traded stories about their childhood and college and family and it felt relaxing. After the food, Neil, as promised ordered her favourite dessert and they both satisfied their sweet tooth as she had ordered chocolate icecream over brownie.

After their lavish dinner, they started their drive back home. It was peaceful this time. They reached Avni's house too soon for Neil's liking and he helped her out of the car and into the house.

Avni bid Neil goodbye and entered her home to a teasing smile from her pyaari si Neela Maa.

Maaa......

Whaaat???

Maa! You know what!

Are kya hua tumhe? Mujhe kya pata hai?

Aap aise kyu has rahe ho?

Kaise?

Aargh! Mujhe aapse baat bhi nahi karni.

Avni stomped to her rom, while Neela just sat smiling on the couch. It was her dream to see Avni going on dates and doing all the stuffs that youngsters her age did, but Avni was Avni and she never did any of those things. Having Neil in her life, even if it was just a few days was changing her for good, and she was pleased with the developments in her daughter's life.
