I'm soft. He made me soft and I hate that. It's like he controls me and I'm scared to refuse. It's been 3 years since Five made me use my brief case in order to travel back before the apocalypse. He's determined to fix something he didn't break. And I, his girlfriend, have to do everything he says. If I don't he gets very frustrated with me, and even if I did something about it, I'm not who I used to be.
"Hayes?" Five sighed, clearly overwhelmed with whatever he's looking at.
"Hm?" I hummed. I think he can tell I'm distracted with my own thoughts because he asks,
"What's on your mind, beautiful?" He stands up from his chair and walks over to mine. He kisses my head softly and whispers, "you gonna say something or do I have to make you?"
"Nothing of your concern, Five. Just thinking, it does not involve you." I whisper gently, hoping to keep him calm. He can act so sweet, which is why I fell for him. But he scares me, not just by what he's able to do with his abilities, but him in general.
"Whatever. I have bigger problems anyways. The apocalypse is arriving in 2 years, give or take. I'm trying to lay out all the possible suspects, I wonder, you've seen the timeline, right?"
I look down before speaking, "we've been over this."
"Make an exception for me, please?" He pleaded.
"Five, I can't. I don't want to." If you think about it, he's already overwhelmed enough. Imagine discovering that your sister, that's supposedly ordinary, has powers and blew up the moon. I only just figured this out recently, after I met her. It's quite easy to piece together, honestly.
"God, you're so useless." Five storms away.
I decide it's best to go join the rest of the family in the living room, who are all currently talking to Grace. As I'm walking I feel a slight pull on my arm, when I turn to see who did this, Vanya stands there, with a confused look in her eyes. Something was obviously puzzling her but I couldn't read it on her face. She grabs my hand and takes me into a room.
"Hayes, if I tell you something, will you promise to not tell anyone else?" She says, starting to concern me a bit. I slowly nod.
"I think I'm a boy. Or at least I want to be."
"What? Really? How do you know?"
"It's just a feeling. I've had it for the longest time now, but I wasn't entirely sure so I kept quiet. Can you please not tell anyone?" HE says, tearing up. I've always been one to respect others feelings, even when it went against my missions. Morals come first.
"Thank you for telling me, Vanya. I'm glad you're aware and accepting of who you really are. Nothing changes between us." I say with a warm smile. I give him a tight hug, putting all my love into it. For a moment, I want to be as brave as he is. I want to spill all my secrets. And for a moment, I think, what if they knew my name? But I quickly push that thought out of my mind as I move back from Vanya and open the door.We join the rest of the family, aside from Reg and Five. Everyone is talking and having a good time, it's great. I wish I had more of this in my life, but I'm so grateful for the time I've spent with these wonderful people. I feel as if I've gained a good relationship with everyone. I connect in different ways with them.
My thought begins to fade when I feel someone staring right through me. When I go to look, Diego has his eyes on me. It's like he's studying every little detail on me, and the stare is so intense I start to become insecure. I get up from the couch and make my way into the kitchen.
I just need a break, from everything. I'm sick of hiding in this house all day and spending my time with a man who hardly cares about me. When will I be left alone in peace? Either the Commission is hunting me, or my boyfriend is. The negative thoughts start to consume me as I stare blankly at the wall.
"Are you okay?" Diego says. I turn to see him leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed. Ha, classic. This man knows me more than I know myself. I didn't even know I gave off that upset energy.
I look away and back towards the wall. "I'm great, and you?"
"You can't lie to me, amor. I see right through you."
"Yeah, obviously. I could tell by the way you were staring at me." I say while giggling. He lets out a chuckle and begins to walk towards me. He stands tall above me and looks down, his eyes looking right into mine. My breath hitches as he takes a strand of my hair and tucks it behind my ear.
"Come on, you know I can read you like a book. Where's my girl? The loud energetic one?" He smiles a bit and then his face goes back to normal.
"I'm just deep in my head, Diego. No worries. You're my best friend, i'd tell you anything." Lies. I know better.
A sudden voice startles me. "Hey, Diego, mind backing away from what's mine?" Five looks him up and down and then looks me directly in the eyes, "and you, you know better."
"Diego was just here to comfort me, Five, nothing else," I look away from Five and to Diego, "right?"
Before Diego gets the chance to speak, Five beats him to it, "still, don't touch her, or any part of her."
"Who are you to tell me what to do, Five? Who put you in charge?" Diego turns his body to face Five, and crosses his arms. "But, she's all yours."
He walks away, without looking back.I'm stuck with him again.
