Nathan had organized an outing with Killua and his friends. Since Killua wasn't even invited to his boyfriend's celebratory birthday weekend trip, Nathan wanted to go above and beyond to cheer him up—as if Killua were sad.
Something about not being invited just didn't seem to bother Killua. I mean, name one person who'd actually prefer being around a doofus turning twenty-six and his gang of delusional failures whose parents pay off the school every year to dismiss their lack of academic excellence.
So, Killua found himself sitting awkwardly at the bus stop Nathan specified, switching between the two pages of apps in his phone as avoiding any conversation with the guy next to him. He shifted his weight from side to side and opened and closed as many apps as possible.
"Hey." The dude struck up a conversation. Unfortunately for Killua, that meant his game of pretending to be busy was over.
"Oh, uh, hello." He looked up awkwardly, still avoiding eye contact like the plague. He pocketed his phone. "You're a friend of Noah's, yeah?"
This friend of Noah's had quite the appearance. His dark brown hair was curly and due for a cut sometime, though Killua found that its current length was quite appealing. His skin was tanned and adorned with light freckles, and his eyes were a pleasant hazel. Even better, he had an eyebrow piercing and snake bites to complete the look. He was quite attractive--more so than Noah, and Killua wouldn't deny it.
His outfit was simple, but well put together; baggy jeans, a washed white tank top, and leather jacket adorned with patches; Killua quite liked the stars on Gon's belt, but he couldn't exactly stare at his lower regions for longer than a second or two without facing judgment.
"Cousin--unfortunately--but yeah. I'm Gon. I saw you on campus the other day." He nodded. "You two aren't close? I mean, he asked if you're planning anything so I'd assume you're good friends, but then he didn't invite you so...maybe not? Oh, well, you don't have to answer of course. Don't mind my prying."
It was quite obvious who got the better genes in the family, and it wasn't the one Killua ended up dating. Noah was quite pale and his hair wasn't nearly as curly, his eyes were brown--the boring kind--and his features were plain.
"He's actually my boyfriend, so..." Killua hummed and nodded awkwardly, his eyes and mind trailing in disappointment to his boyfriend's lack of competence. "Good riddance to the guy, honestly. I wouldn't enjoy a weekend-long trip with those...boisterous losers."
"Oh, you and Noah— That's interesting." He laughed, and Killua couldn't help but fixate his eyes on those pearly whites. Noah's teeth were always yellow. "In any case, is it fair of you to call his friends losers? Maybe you're just projecting."
"I would take offense to that, but you're the one sitting on a bus stop bench with me, so I don't feel like you have very much room to be talking. Besides, I'm not loud and obnoxious to compensate for an obvious lack."
"Yeah, well, it doesn't seem like you have very many friends because of it."
"And you do? All I see is a guy who hangs around his cousin because he has no one else."
"Ouch, but no. I've plenty of friends."
"Right, and I'm good at chemistry."
"Either way, this is a pity trip. I take it you're the depressed friend Nathan told me to come out and cheer up?"
"Dammit, I told him to stop telling people I'm depressed. Listen, I'm just fine. You may as well leave. Sorry Nathan interrupted your weekend, Gon. Oh, and--bad manners—I'm Killua."
"Ah, don't worry about it. This gave me an excuse to get out of his birthday weekend." He laughed again.
"Hey, what's your major? I've never seen you around my side of campus."
