There is no time to waste. I quickly glance at my instructor across the facility. Whatever is striking at the door seems to be getting angrier. I make my decision.
I put my walkie-talkie back into my pocket and grab a brick nearby the window. I smash the brick against the glass as hard as I can. The window loudly shatters into little fragments all around me. I hear the creature break through the door behind me, and I step over where the window used to be. I look down below me. The facility is centered around a deep, black hole. I cannot see how far the hole goes down. It doesn't look man-made, so I would think that these caves have been here for some time. But I don't have time to admire this miraculous crater. The creature behind me screeches. I slide down from the rocks I stand on, and I find myself on another level of rocks, just five feet below. I now know that I can keep sliding my way down this pit. I once again slide down the steep rocks beneath me. One foot at a time, I move down this huge pit, until I cannot see the light coming from the facility anymore. I hear the piercing sound of those monsters behind me, as they lose sight of me.
I have gone down this pit for over an hour, until the ground beneath me is all on one level. I sit down to rest for a few seconds. I look around with my lantern. I appear to be in some sort of mine, but I cannot tell what could have been mined here. Most of the walls around me are made of hard, ordinary-looking stone. I begin to move around this place. The entire pit seems to have gone down five-foot step by five-foot step all around until it came down to this center. But at the opposite end of this center, there is a small tunnel, that goes underneath the pit's natural steps. As I walk through this cave, my lantern dies, and I become consumed by darkness.
It is entire different kind of darkness in here. You don't just lose your sight to this kind of darkness, but your other senses as well. It becomes hard to tell what direction you are walking in. And a strange feeling overcomes you. It is a feeling as if you are deaf man in a room filled with sound, and you try your hardest to make out just the slightest bit of a sound, but your attempts fail everytime. It is a feeling of ultimate despair; a feeling of failure and regret. This feeling isn't normal. I can tell.
My eyes begin to adjust to the darkness, and the horrid feeling begins to leave me. I continue forward through this small tunnel. I walk for some time, and I entire another room, much larger than before. It looks to be about twenty-five feet tall, but there is something in the middle that keeps me from seeing the end of this room. This room was definitely used for a mine. Picks lay strewn about the floor, and flashlights nearby. I pick up one of the flashlights, and test to see if it still works. It does. I turn and walk towards the blockade in the center. I drop my flashlight and gasp in horror at the sight of the blockade.
This is no odrinary blockade. This is a wall of bodies. Hundreds of them. Possibly even a thousand. All of them lay piled on top of each other, blocking whatever is on their other side. The blood of fifty bodies slowly drips down to a puddle on the ground. Some of the bodies have been there long enough to have dried up. I take a closer look at the corpses. I hold back from heaving up at the sight. Some of these poor people are nothing but bleeding muscle and dry bones. Most still have their skin left on them, but they are not much easier to look at. Each of these corpses have had their hearts ripped out of their chests. These people are missing their eyes, and their sockets have large X's over them. I take an even closer look and see that they have obvious signs of being tortured before their demise. But the worst thing of all was their jaws. Each of their jaws had been completely torn off, and only some had theirs hanging off. And everyone of them had their hearts sewn into their mouthes. This horrific blockabe goes up almost to the ceiling.
It is hard for me to stand up, but I know that whoever did this is coming for me next. I knew that I only have one option: To climb.
I step over the first few corpses with ease. But as I slowly climb up, that horrible sensation begins to overwhelm me again. At the top of the blockade, a different feeling takes over. I look down and see a mutiliated little girl beneath my feet. She looks maybe ten or eleven. This girl and this feeling seem familiar, but i cannot tell why or from where. The feeling fades off. I look up to see that there is an old elevator on the other side of the huge room. The type of elevator that you would see in a mine shaft. So I was right about this place being a mine, but its more of a grave yard than a mine for making money. I wonder why they were stacked in a blockade, rather than just layn around the room. Are these creatures trying to keep something out?
I slide down the wall of the dead and begin to head over to the elevator. As soon as I get to the elevator, a light goes p and I hear something begin to movie down. I quickyl look for a place to run, but cannot find one. I rush to try to get back up the blockade, but keep slipping at every attempt. The creature comes down from the elevator shaft and screeches loudly. I'm out of ideas. I don't know where to run to. The creature jumps for me and grabs a hold of my neck. It screams loudly once again and begins to open its terrible mouth. The spikes it has for teeth begin into the shape of a circle, just big enough to fit my head through its throat. As soon as I am certain that this will be my end, a spike drives through the creatures throat. At first, I am not sure if this was a part of its body, but the creatures body becomes limp and falls to its side. I look at it and see that a pick ax has been driven through the back of its head. I look around and my eyes lock onto something else. Something with blue eyes and dark hair. Someone. The figure looks at me for a second and then dashes out of sight.
No one else could have been in this room, I tell myself. The monster came down the elevator shaft alone. And I would think that I would have noticed if there was someone in the room that wasn't mutilated. My instructor was hiding in that control room. But now I know that there was someone else. Or something. Something that saved me.
But why?
I turn back towards the elevator shaft and stand inside. I press the button that looks like an upward arrow. I have to get to my instructor and tell him of what has happened. But I have a feeling that this will not be easy.
