That spark, that which courses through the brain and nervous system. Was the first step. It was a vital thing, the brain, and it was the most precious part of the experimentation. This was to be the most groundbreaking science of the century. After all... magic was real. Gods were real. So why then... has no one thought of this before? No one but him.
At first, it was the sound, the buzzing and exhales of air. The sounds of metal instruments clinking against a tray. And a man's ragged breathing, one could tell he was close.
Secondly, it was the strange familiar sensation of breathing. The air being pumped into her throat, her lungs expanding. Contracting and spreading in her chest. The machine was making her lungs work. And yet, she couldn't move. Couldn't think. All that was felt, was sound and breath.
Sound and breath.
"Don't worry, you'll feel better soon, my love." The voice said, unfamiliar, and yet she couldn't grasp the meaning of the words. What was he saying? Her brain couldn't scramble to figure out the meaning.
Feeling.
It was one of the most extraordinary sensations. "You'll feel a little prick." The man said, poking something into her toe. Instinctively, it made her foot flinch. That was... the first she's felt something like this. Then the sensation began to spread. The cold metal of the table against her back. The crisp air touching her entire naked body. The pressure of the needles in her veins. On her legs, her arms, her chest, her neck. So many needles connected to tubing she could sense. The most uncomfortable part was the tube within her throat. Keeping her breathing.
"Mm-" The woman was afraid of all the sensations. Then she felt a rush of liquid course through one of the needles. Willing her to sleep.
"Ssshhh... don't be afraid. Soon you will be well again. I promise."
Who knows how much time had passed, when this time. She began to feel again, and this time, her eyelids felt the will of her mind. She could move? The woman hadn't realized she could. Her eyelids felt heavy. But slowly they began to open. And the most blinding light disturbed her but it was so beautiful so intriguing.
She blinked, it was the first time she's ever been able to see. Her eyes slowly glance over at the figure watching her.
His smile was wide, toothy, and full of some sort of emotion she could not understand.
"My love... you're doing so well. Soon you'll be able to move and speak. You'll be alive once more. My Gwen Stacy." The man said, she didn't know this man. He looked like an older soul. And yet she couldn't understand his intentions with her.
"My name is Miles Warren, do you remember? Perhaps not. Your brain has had no activity for years. A lack of oxygen could damage many parts of the brain. But I've managed... to cure this. And slowly you will live as you once did. Beautifully and gracefully. My love."
The woman was struggling to understand any of what he said. She closed her eyes. Wanting to rest. When she heard the man mutter.
"That Peter Parker, won't come between us now."
Her eyes snapped open. It felt as if a shock coursed through her brain. Something came to mind. Something was stirring.
The cackling of the Goblin echoed in her head over and over. The weightlessness of falling through the air. Nothing to hold on to. Her hair flowing in all directions. Her eyes focused on the man she's loved for so long. Masked in that red and blue. She wanted to reach towards him. Fear. Gwen came to the realization that by the time he got to her. It would be too late. Closing her eyes. There was only one last thing she thought of.
I love you Peter Parker.
"MMMM! MMMM!" Gwen Stacy struggled but soon came to realize that she was restrained to the operating table. Her eyes wide and glancing down at her discolored body, filled with tubing and stitches. As if she were cut open before. "MMMMM!" Her voice was muffled by the intubation. Her wailing and hoarseness of her voice echoing in the lab. She fiercely struggled against the restraints.
"Oh no! No no! Don't you dare!" Dr.Warren scolded. Gwen's eyes were filled with tears. And her voice continued to wail as she thrashed on the table. Her heart was racing. It was as if she felt all that fear all over again that she had in her last moments. Making her heart leap, her stomach drop, and her body sweat.
Gwen was panting, tears streaming down her cheeks. All her thoughts were jumbled. But she could only think of one singular thought.
Peter! Peter where are you? Please! Please help me! HELP ME!
"Sssshhhh it's alright. It's alright." The man injected a serum into one of her veins. Gwen winced as the liquid coursed through with quick force. "I'll help you forget those horrible memories. Just you see... You won't be hurt anymore."
"MMM!" Gwen wanted to sob but she couldn't. Looking at the doctor with fear in her eyes. Now seeing as he began to place something hard on her temples. She didn't understand what it was. Until it came all at once. Shocking her. Making her freeze up. And her eyes widening. Her vision blurring.
"You will forget. Peter Parker." The man said.
Gwen couldn't move. Her head trembling as the electricity coursed through her brain.
"Spider-Man killed you."
Gwen couldn't think. Couldn't move. What life was this? What horrible life was this? But now all she could hear was his voice.
"Spider-Man killed you."
Gwen's eyes began to shut. This time she was losing her consciousness. Only one thought in mind.
Spider-Man killed me...
