"You can't do this." Kieran growled.
"Kieran, this is for the best." Matthew tried to reason.
"No! You know exactly what's going to happen if you take us there." His emerald green eyes were illuminating with rage.
"We can get rid of Ray once and for all!" Matthew sighed, exasperated.
"Maybe so, but it's not worth it if during the process, we loose half the pack." Kieran argued.
"Listen to me, I am your Alpha." He said slowly, loosing patience with the boy. "Don't forget your place."
"I am merely telling you that this idea is the dumbest idea I have ever heard come out of your mouth, and you've said some crap in your day." Kieran clenched his fists and the tension in the room sky rocketed.
"Dad?" They turned to see a beautiful blonde girl with shining golden eyes. She was wearing a blue and green summer dress with white laced flats. Her hair was in perfect curls and laid evenly around her shoulders. "Kieran? What's going on?"
"Nothing, June. Just reminding your friend where he stands." Matthew shot a glare towards the brunette.
"Well, Esyna is here." Matthew nodded to his daughter.
"Tell her I'll be right out." June nodded and gave Kieran a worried look before she turned and walked back outside of the abandoned barn.
"As for you, we're leaving, and that's final." He stormed past him and walked outside, leaving Kieran with his thoughts.
He was furious with his leader. Not only was he putting his own life in danger, he was putting his children's life in danger. Kieran's heart went out to the three pups. They followed their father with blind faith. Not once questioning his judgement. That's how they were all supposed to be. They were supposed to stay in line and do as their leader told them, but Kieran refused. He wasn't going to just stand by while Matthew put all of their lives on the line.
"Dude," Kieran looked over to the corner of the room where one of the stables were. There stood his little brother. Not much younger than himself, but still his little brother. His hair was darker and he had blue eyes. He took after their mother, while Kieran looked more like their father. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"No, I'm trying to protect us all." Kieran rolled his eyes and walked over to one of the stables that he was currently staying in. They had been doing a lot of traveling and Matthew decided to stay in this abandon stable barn instead of a motel. Another one of his poor decisions.
"I understand, but you and I both know that Matthew would kill you if he thought you weren't worth being in the pack anymore." He said while he watched Kieran start throwing stuff into his duffle bag.
"Someone's gotta stand up to him." Kieran replied. He picked up a picture of himself, his brother, and their parents. It was before all of this. It was when Kieran lived a normal life. When he didn't have to worry about the full moon or a dick leader. Before he was forced to stay on the move. When he had a home, with friends and family, and not a care in the world.
"Doesn't mean it has to be you." He tossed the picture into the bag and looked up at his brother.
"Jaden, if I don't. Who will? You?" He zipped up the bag and walked past Jaden into the main room where he threw it down on the floor.
"Hell no! But in his eyes, you're just a pup. He's not going to listen to you." Jaden pointed out.
"That may be true, but last time I checked, the only other "adult" in the pack was Esyna, and she'd never go against Matthew's word." He sighed. "Besides, it's not my life I'm worried about. It's Hunter and Eva I'm worried about. They're only pups, and if he takes us to Ray, they are sure to die."
"Maybe he has a safe house." Jaden suggested.
"Yeah, and name one of our 'safe houses' that Ray hasn't found." He countered.
Jaden didn't say anything. He just looked down at the duffle bag that was laying on the dirty floor. A small smile crept up on his face. "Remember when one of us was upset, mom would tell us about how anger was just a figment of our imagination?"
Kieran tensed up. "Mom's gone." He murmured. "Now it's just you and me, and I am not going to let Matthew's poor judgement make us loose anyone else."
Jaden nodded. "So, what do you suggest we do?"
"I don't know." Kieran admitted.
They stood in silence for a moment before the barn door opened and June walked in. "Someone wanna tell me what just happened?" She asked, her arms crossed.
"You're father doesn't know how to lead." Kieran spoke.
"You don't know anything about my father. He's lost everything. You two are just spoiled brats that always have to have things your way." She retorted.
"June, it's not like that. He wants to take us to Hannibal so we can fight Ray-"
"That's a good thing." She interrupted.
"No, it's not." He snapped. "You know what's in Hannibal? Hunters. If there are two wolf packs in the area, they're gonna know, and they're gonna come after us."
"No they won't. We'll blend in." She argued.
"Yeah, because no one's ever suspicious of the new kids." He looked over at the door. "Look," he said turning his attention back to June. "It's not just hunters. Ray has one of the biggest werewolf packs known. If you don't remember, the only eligible fighters are you, Jaden, Matthew, Esyna, and me. Hunter and Eva are only 5."
"Yeah, and you're only 16. You don't know what's good for the pack, Matthew does. So I suggest you shut up and learn your place." She barked and stormed out of the barn as her father had.
"What a bitch." Jaden murmured.
"No kidding." Kieran agreed. He shook his head as if to clear it and turned back to his brother.
"Not to mention she acts like Matthew is the only one who's ever lost someone he cares about. He lost his mate, we lost our lives!" Jaden growled.
"Jaden, this isn't about who lost what. It's about who we're gonna loose if we don't stop Matthew." Kieran reasoned.
"You're not going to stop anyone." The brothers turned their heads to see Esyna standing there with her blonde hair put into a high ponytail and wearing her usual business looking outfit. "Matthew knows what he's doing. You two should learn your place." She looked between the two brothers. "One more step out of line like that, Kieran, and you're done for."
Kieran looked up at the she-wolf with nothing but hatred. She was only here to become mates with Matthew, and lead the pack. She didn't care for Matthew, she just wanted his power, and she'd kill for it. "Now," she began,"Matthew told you we were going to Hannibal, so that's what we're doing. No questions." She turned and walked out of the barn.
"I'd rather be kicked out." Kieran growled under his breath.
"Then why don't we just leave?" Jaden questioned.
"I'm not going to leave Hunter and Eva alone. They need someone who's actually gonna look out for them." He turned back to his brother.
Jaden sighed. "You can't protect them forever. They're gonna grow up and probably be like June."
"Well, only time will tell." Kieran shrugged.
Jaden rolled his eyes.
