Ricky stood in the middle of the empty diner as he stared at the piece of paper with her number on it. He didn't know why he was reluctant to call her when he knew damn well he wanted to spend time with her. Maybe it was jitters since it's been a month since he saw her. He finally finds the courage to press the call button and anxiously awaits for her to answer.
She picks up almost instantly. "Long time, no see!"
He smiles at the sound of her voice. "Hey, how've you been?"
"Oh, don't bore me with those basic greetings. You know I'm not into that stuff."
He felt his ears warm up. "Sorry, I guess I'm just a little nervous."
"Why? It's just me! I'm literally the most nonjudgmental and carefree human being you'll ever meet."
"That's valid." He clears his throat. "So, I got your note."
"I figured since you're calling."
"Where did you want me to meet you?"
He hears her humming over the phone, and he could almost see her tapping her chin while she gazed at the sky.
"Meet me at the street between Main Street and 5th Avenue downtown."
"Which street? There's three of them in between those two you just listed."
"I believe in you to find out which one I'm referring to. See you in ten!"
She hangs up before he can say anymore. Generally, he'd be immensely annoyed if someone were to give him such vague directions, but Nini was an exception. He chuckles as he stuffs the sheet of paper back in his pocket.
"Classic Nini."
He quickly exited the diner and began running towards his destination. He knew that it was at least a ten minute walk, but he didn't have time to call an Uber. Even if he did, the traffic was so bad at this hour that he'd end up being late. Something told him that she wasn't the type to wait around too long.
He dreads that he was wearing business attire since his nice shoes weren't meant for jogging, but he didn't let that stop him from his goal. He arrives between the streets ten minutes later and stops when he sees his three options. He analyzed each road to determine which one Nini would likely take.
The first one had nothing that would catch Nini's eye on it; he knew that since he's driven it countless times. The second one was a worthy opponent due to the gravity and singular nightclub, but it still wasn't right since she wouldn't like how bleak the rest of that road was. The final one was so fitting since he was aware of all the art and liveliness down that strip. Most if not all of those stores on that street are somewhere she'd shop.
He smirks and runs in that direction. He walked down the street and was about to check the stores for her, but he couldn't track her down. When he started to lose hope, he finally gave in and called her.
"Still can't find me?"
"No, where are you?"
"You're getting warmer."
