Laying in bed beyond the midnight hours had become a common occurrence for Harry, sleep being the rarer friend. None of his friends had seemed to notice Harry's sudden lack in interest in his studies, not that he cared much before anyway, even Quidditch was becoming to make acquaintances with the back of his mind. Only Hermione began to contemplate suspicion when Harry seemed mindlessly unaware of his surroundings.
His whole attention was devoted to the blonde haired Slytherin, something he couldn't admit to anyone. The ability to compartmentalise was not strong for him therefore his interest in anything besides Malfoy was bleak. He imagined Malfoy was probably strutting around, not even thinking twice about their heated encounter. But Harry ensured one thing; he would kiss Malfoy again.
Not as something he would enjoy, but as an act of revenge. How dare Malfoy make Harry inept to all other things going on in his life. It was quite frankly rude and Harry needed to get back at him. His thoughts wondered off to the scared boy Draco had been in that small yet felt like an hour strange time period, crying, confused and vulnerable. That was the real Draco, but instead of letting people see that he put on a dangerous facade, one that Harry couldn't bare, so he decided not the sympathise, he was going to continue with his conquest to fuck with Malfoy, of course as revenge, nothing more.
But he needed advice. He'd never even thought about romancing someone before, let alone a Slytherin git, too arrogant for his own good. And Harry knew just who to speak to.
At about 2am that night, once all his housemates were asleep and the song of Ron's snores filled the dorm, Harry threw on his cloak and gently padded down the stairs to the fire place, he kneeled in front of it and began to speak in a whisper-shout.
"Sirius! Are you awake? Can we talk? It's urgent." He spoke into the fireplace. Suddenly a very tired and messy haired man's face popped up. He looked as though he'd just been interrupted from a deep sleep, which Harry took for truth.
"Harry, it's 2am, what could possibly be so important." He blinked slowly, his voice raspy and hushed.
"I need advice. I-I want to.. err. Get someone to like me like a lot." He rushed out before he could second guess himself. Sirius' beady eyes darted open after Harry spoke and a glimmer in his eye told Harry waking him up was worth it.
"So, you're 15, i knew this would happen. Well, you've come to the lady expert himself! Listen when i was your age i had all the girls on me like a magnet! But i only wanted one bo-girl." He corrected himself rapidly. "Listen, my number one tip is to act like you don't care, it drives them nuts! Make them work for you. Then when you've got them really working you surprise them, pretend to fix up and act like a dream, i'm talking nice flowers, nice dates, the whole thing, they'll practically fall at your feet!" He concluded with glee, practically gleaming at his great advice.
Harry took this all in with a pinch of salt. Wait, maybe this is what Malfoy had been doing, acting like he didn't care so i would fall for him, not as sneaky as he thinks, eh? He placed the pieces of the puzzle together, soaking in his mental glory.
"Thanks Sirius, that's really helped actually." He smiled in adoration of his godfather.
"How have you been, i do miss having you around here, it's been quite lonely. The Weasley's have stopped by from time to time, Molly always brings an abundance of food but your company never fails to cheer me up." He looked at Harry with solemn eyes.
"I've been good, sleeping much more now i'm on the good old Dreamless Sleep potions." This was a lie, Harry had not slept a full night for at least a week, but Sirius didn't need to know that. "Nightmares come and go but this person has been a real distraction so i just want to get it out of the way." He admitted. Sirius also didn't need to know that this person was in fact the Slytherin Prince himself.
"Who is it, you have to tell me! I won't tell anyone, i will do an Unbreakable i swear to Merlin." He pleaded but Harry could not bare to think of the disappointment he would meet if he was to tell the truth.
"It's umm.. Cho Chang! Yeah, she's a Ravenclaw, very pretty, quite nice actually, yeah she's a nice girl and is very girly and wears makeup and other girl stuff." He tried to sound convincing but was having trouble trying to convince himself let alone his prying godfather.
"Oh. Right. Harry, i know i'm not your father and never will compare to him but you can tell me any-." Harry quickly shook his head.
"Oh wow is that the time? Best go to bed, loads of err homework, you know. Goodnight Sirius!" He scrambled up to his feet once again and when he turned around he was faced with Hermione.
"I didn't know you still had a thing for Cho, she is quite lovely but isn't it time you move on? I'm guessing she's still devastated by." She cut herself off quickly. "But i'm sure you can figure it out. You should be getting to bed Harry, it's nearly 3am." She sounded like a mother, but Harry couldn't argue with the statement so he nodded weakly and tiptoed back up the stairs, being careful not to wake his dorm mates even though they were probably dead to the world.
The following morning Harry was ready to take on Sirius' advice. He would not even search for Malfoy in the Hall, as he had done religiously for the past month. Even in detention, which he had skipped for the past 2 days, he would not even bat an eyelid towards the boy.
This all came crashing down when Malfoy walked in to the Great Hall, another Slytherin girl wrapped around his arm. Harry seethed, feeling a rising bile in his throat. Fuck. He thought.
He gazed intently as Malfoy was genuinely smiling at the girl, eloped in the conversation that was clearly so interesting. This made Harry angry. How could Malfoy kiss him and then go couple up with another girl. Out of order.
Suddenly, dentition would not be a place of ignorance, but a time for revenge.
