Twelve years later...

The dead city used to be a bustling metropolis before it's Sun Stone was destroyed.

In a way, it had been his fault. They'd punished the town that had produced the child that was not supposed to be alive. Oh, if only they knew what he could do.

A train horn sounded in the distance, the male watching as single bright lights sped toward the track he was waiting by. This was the only city that had figured out a subway system, and they would have shared it had it's creators not been torn to shreds by the Obsidian who'd gotten through before a new source of protection was found.

"Soul!" A small fist grasped at the male's pants as the train sped by, blaring it's horn.

Sometimes he just watched as the train sped by.

After he was taken in, the male had taken up work on protecting the dead city. Where the Golds and Jades thought that it was dead, he was there to protect them. His new mother named him Soul, and after that it had been a blur. There were bad days, but they did not far outweigh the good.

"Mama wan' back home!" Looking down, he was faced with one of the good parts of his life. His little sister, Mama. "Wan' go see Teal!"

He smiled under the mask he always wore, nodding. Mama was usually the first one to come to Soul, while his other two younger brothers went in search of their mother. Picking Mama up, Soul turned and began his walk home.

Soul was told that his city was the only one in eternal darkness, the canopy of leaves a major reason why. It was only because of him that they survived, and the locals knew it.

"Soul, Mama!" Because the locals knew, the family was highly respected. It wasn't how it was before, not when they realized that the son of their most major Diosa was present. "We need help in the gardens! Our tomatoes aren't growing because of the lack of light!"

Soul loomed over most of the villagers, that being normal for a Semidios or regular Dios. They were never scared of him though, loving the gentle giant for all he was worth.

"Come, come!" the young woman shooed the boy toward the garden. "See?!

A tomato plant was wilting, which was peculiar until Soul realized that this neighbor of his didn't request a feature he'd given all gardens so they could grow efficiently.

"You need sun!" But luckily, Mama could speak before Soul dropped her trying to sign his response. "Soul, give her sun!"

Soul nodded, a small ball of light curling around his fingers and gathering in his palm. It was rare for adults to see him use the power of his Diose parent, he was careful about using it in front of them for fear they'd try to turn him in.

"The Sunbearer Trials begin tomorrow night, you're eligible for that right?" the neighbor tried to strike up conversation.

"Soul no able." Mama answered cheerfully. "Sol not want own kid!"

Soul nodded, pushing the ball of sun to hover above the middle of the garden. Once he was done, he nodded to the neighbor before leaving. At least now he didn't have to talk with her anymore, all any adult to talk about were the Trials. They thought that if he participated he'd be able to bring back their sun, but he knew that it wasn't likely. Only adults held onto something like that, and the kids?

"Soul!" They'd accepted just as he did that there was no saving them.

"And Mama! We home!" The young girl practically tumbled from from Soul's grip, cheering as she ran to he oldest biological brother. "Soul made sun! Soul made sun!"
