THEY WALK AMONG US

Chapter 1

The air outside was hot and muggy but this was nothing out

of the ordinary for late July. The kids had been asking me for

days to take them to the public pool. I figured why not today

I thought while they were in the pool cooling off I could go

ahead and lay out in the sun and work on my tan. Jason did

not want to go. He hated the pool and the heat so he decided

to just stay home in the air conditioning. We got to the pool

and it did not even take the kids 5 minutes to shed their

clothes and dive right in, so I went ahead and got all my

things laid out so I could start tanning. I figured every once

in a while when I got too hot I could just take a dip in the

pool to cool off.

The kids were having such a good time running around and

going up the new water slide they had just put in last month.

They all loved being able to go to the pool in the summer and

the bright side for me is by the time they get home and had

there showers and ate dinner they were sound asleep.

I must have dozed off because the sound of my phone

ringing woke me up, it was Jason calling telling me to get the

kids and get home right away. I asked him what was wrong

and why did he want us to come home. It was only 3pm and we

had not been there for that long. He said there was

something going on and the president was going to be holding

a news conference. I could tell just by the way he was talking

that something was not right. He never got this upset and he

even seemed a little afraid by the sound of his voice.

So I gathered up everything and got the kids and as we

were heading for the front gates the whistles were blowing,

they came over their loud speaker and announced the pool

would be closing in 15 minutes. You could see parents starting

to show up in droves to pick up their kids.As we were leaving

out the gate you could see more and more parents running in

to pick up their kids, what the hell is going on? What is it

Jason did not want to tell me over the phone?

I could tell something was not right not with just this but

the strange phone call from Jason. After finally making our

way through all the parents there to pick up there kids we got

to the truck and loaded up and headed for home. What

should have only taken us 10 minutes tops took us 25 minutes.

Traffic was insane, I had never seen this much traffic in

this area before. As soon as we pulled in the drive Jason

came running out the door and before I could even turn the
