"Friends don't look at eachother the way you two do."

~~~~~
Sirius just couldn't look away. His posture, his hair, his eyes, his smile. His ...everything. Just him.
Yet he couldn't quite understand why. There was something about Remus that had himself unable to want to leave his side.
Remus was smart. And, he often helped Sirius with his homework, not because Sirius needed help with it but because Sirius found himself wanting to be near him. To feel him closer. But why?
Remus was cute. He couldn't deny that if he tried. Remus would always furrow his brow and scrunch his nose slightly when thinking particularly about something. It had Sirius's stomach churning. Still, why?
Remus was talented. That was well known among them all. Remus owned notebooks upon notebooks full of not notes, but drawings, doodles. He owned about seven already and he began filling them in their first year of hogwarts (they're in sixth year). A few pages were filled with his favourite star constellations, cats (his favourite animal) and some of his friends. Sirius never got a proper look but he found himself burning up when Remus told him he'd drawn him one night. But he just couldn't understand why.
Remus had a good fashion sense (if he did say so himself). He owned what looked like a thousand jumpers and they all looked brilliant on him. It was like his body was made for them. Tailored just for him. Yet again, like always, Sirius found himself not wanting to look away. Oh Merlin, why??
Remus was attractive. His slender frame stood tall. He had a growth spurt in the break between fifth and sixth year, which somehow made him look better. He had scars. Though he was insecure about them Sirius found himself trailing them with his eyes in awe. He knew he had more scars, more than he saw on the surface. But he'd do whatever it takes to assure him that he shouldn't be ashamed of them. They didn't make him ugly, they didn't make him different, they didn't make him inferior. They just made him, who he is.
Those scars made him into the caring, generous sarcastic bastard he was today.
Yet, this condition isn't who he is, it's just that. A condition. And Sirius prayed to no god he believed in that Remus would see that about himself one day.
"Oi-." James nudges him and Sirius blinks a few times, coming out of his daze. "Take a picture, it lasts longer."
In spite of himself Sirius found himself blushing and glancing back over to Remus where he was studying before he forced his gaze away.
He watched as James rolls his eyes. "Merlin." He says not taking his eyes of the map in his lap, mumbling. "Just make out and get it over with."
Sirius was taken aback by that and has to stop for a moment to process his best mate's words. "What-?"
James rolls his eyes, looking at Sirius again. "Oh, please." When Sirius says nothing more and just stared blankly at his friend he sighs and folds the map. Then he adjusts his seating position and he sat firmly in front of Sirius. "Padfoot, mate, love you, but you can't seriously be saying that you haven't noticed by now."
Sirius opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again when he found he didn't know what to say.
"Really? You?" James said.
Sirius didn't say anything but turned his head to Remus again. Remus appeared to be already staring at him as their eyes locked
Sirius couldn't help but be entranced, hypnotised by them, their colour. Brown eyes staring into grey ones.
"See. That, right there." James said. And Sirius finally brought himself to look away. "Friends don't look at eachother the way you two do."
Then he realised it. He finally understood why he was feeling all these things about Remus. His good friend. He wanted him to be more than that. How could he have been so clueless? It was obvious, the answer had been staring him plainly in the face for so long. So caught up in everything else around him to notice what was right in front of him the whole time.
He liked Remus John Lupin.
Not just liked him. He loved him.
"There you are." James said with a roll of his eyes. "Took you long enough."
Sirius blinked at him. "Merlin." He put his head in his hands and sighed.
James laughs heartily and pat's Sirius on the back. "It's fine, Pads." When he spoke again, his voice is dripping with sarcasm. "Y'know, it only took you five years."
He rolled his eyes as he looked at James. "Really?"
James just shrugged and smiled but said nothing else as he patted Sirius one last time and stood. He left and Sirius watched him go.
When he looked back at Remus his eyes were fixed on the table in front of him, deep in thought.
Sirius stood and walked slowly over to him and tapped his shoulder. He felt his heart skip a beat as Remus looks up to him.
"Don't think to hard." He smiled. "You'll hurt yourself."
Remus smiled then and stuffed his parchment into the book on the table before closing it. He stood and faced Sirius, smile unwavering. "Right, my bad."
"Going up to bed?" He asked.
Remus nodded. "Yeah, I think I've had enough for today."
"'bout time." Sirius said as Remus began walking toward the dorm, him following behind.
