Beep. Beep. Beep

Gasping up from another dream, was Mai, she could feel the the cold shivers leave off the tip of her mouth as the cold air snuggles her body, it felt as if her room with a big 4 walled size freezer.

Mai's eyes shot over to her window. Damn it. She mentally cursed herself as she slipped out of her bed. The floor was hardwood so when she stepped onto it, she almost slipped, the floor became so moist and had a gooey feeling to it.

Once the window was closed she looked around her room to see that it was an danger hazard. The brunette had to leave the window open in order to get some heat because even with the 2 jobs she was working, she still didn't make enough money to pay for heat, cable, and the rent.

It was a good strategy until winter came around, hints the weather.

Mai stepped over her dirty clothes and over to the bathroom, she still felt so cold, when she turned on the water it was as icy as snow and solid as ice.

She couldn't help but to groan in frustration. Why couldn't everything just go her way? For once? But nope, this was real life—not, Mai's world, because if it was Mai's world than everything would be all Live. Laugh. And music, or books, god did she love books.

Mai finally reached out side of her room and made her way to the room her brother was sleeping in. The 18 year old girl had a huge responsibility but she could handle it.

With a gentle knock at the door, a darker haired boy walked out of the room, he smiled brightly and he stood about 1 inch taller than his older sister. "I was already up, I also cleaned the kitchen and I finished with the bathroom last night and my room is all good. If you want I can go make us some cereal while you get dressed or something." He offered as he pulled his lip into a tight thin line.

Mai couldn't help but to smile, this is what she loved. She loved the fact that her brother was as helpful as he could get, she loved that he was the most nicest there was in the family and that he held her together.

Without Kenny—her brother, she wouldn't be who she is now, she wouldn't have that said push, she felt with her parents, and most of all, she wouldn't have woken up stable this morning, quite literally.

"Thank you Ken, I really appreciate it but no need to make me anything, you could just go and make you something to eat, I'll be fine, but remember that dad will be coming back from the military today, so you'll have to be ready when he picks you up." Mai explained as she rubbed her hand through his hair.

Kenny frowned and stepped back a bit, he was a little confused. "What about you? You aren't going to spend the day with dad?" Kenny questioned, confused.

The older girl felt her throat itch, she felt a burn that was cutting holes in her body and suffocating her to the point where she could even feel blood leave. But it wasn't leaving, it was just a blood rush. Could she even face her father again? The same man that left her to watch her younger brother instead of letting her have a good and happy childhood.

The same man that didn't give her a dime and had her work her ass off at just the age of 15. The same man that is going to come with gifts and make Kenny think that he's the good guy when he's the monster behind a mask that never comes off. The man that wears the cape of a villain that belonged to the hero? Could she face him and actually wear a smile that was real as gold, or would the smile mold and fail on her lips when she see the disgusting face that she called her father?
