I was being shook. It didn't help that my back already hurt, but now my neck was being jerked back and forth.
I cracked my eyes open just a little. Sleep felt so good, but the shaking continued.
"I'm up! I'm up....." I said.
"Erika, wake up!!" Mary yelled.
I opened my eyes fully, suddenly very alert. Sunil was bounding towards me, claws unleashed.
I looked straight up, and David was there. He was the one shaking me; and I suddenly knew why.
A group of dark skinned bulky men was attacking our group. Parker, Michael, and their Lettins had killed 3 of the 7 men who were attacking us. Sunil was attacking a man who had been running towards me.
I jumped up and grabbed a dagger from a backpack I'd found. My hands shook intensely.... I don't know if I could kill anyone without a second thought.
Just in the middle of my mental block, I heard Mary yell behind me. A woman with black wiry hair and a muscular body was wrestling with her, and Mary was not winning.
The woman had an advantage on Mary size-wise. But Mary was more agile and swift. I was just about to join her in the fight when an orangutan leapt out from the trees with mango skin hanging from her mouth. I knew that this animal was Mary's Lettin and not a wild monkey. Her eyes had an innocence like, Oh, we're fighting now? Okay, okay!!!!"
The orangutan raised her fist and clinked the woman on top of her head. She fell over, clutching her head and her eyes clenched shut.
Satisfied, the orangutan crawled over and put her hand on Mary's leg. A bruise was growing under her kneecap, but she would be alright. The enemie's Lettins attacked our team also. I managed to wrap my head around the situation and get it together. I impaled an iguana in the stomach, a badger in the head, but suddenly, I was knocked to the ground.
A man with intricate tattooing on his neck had me pinned down near the river, his knife raised. I slammed my foot into his groin and pushed him over before he could do anything.
Not bad, Erika, not bad at all.
Sunil leapt over me and finished him off. I looked around and saw that to my horror, Jane and Parker lay dead on the ground.
A newfound fury burned through me. I had only known these people for a few days, but they were like my family. Jane's boxer had been speared with a....well, a spear. Parker's raccoon lay dead near the river.
I screamed a battle cry, grabbed the backpack, and slammed a man on the backside of the head with it. I jammed the dagger blade into his rib cage and stomach. Mary was ruthless with the bow and arrow we found, and slamming people in the head with a purse was my thing, I guess. I had killed 3 people when I heard a deep snarl behind me. It wasn't a warm, deep purr from Sunil; he sounds different. This was more of a high pitched, almost screaming snarl. I turned around, blade raised, and looked right into the eyes of a black panther. Its shoulder blades raised and lowered as it stalked toward me. It stopped and crouched into a pouncing position.
"Come at me, pretty kitty." I said.
The animal sprung, its claws raised for my neck, its jowls open. I ducked just before it could get my face, and turned around. It landed gracefully on the dense foliage. It sneered at me, its checks pulled back exposing his white, sharp fangs. I lunged at it with the blade aiming for its chest. Before I could reach the cat, David's grizzly bear came barreling through the foliage. It rammed into the panther and started, literally, ripping it apart. Beau and his snake were in a tree, throwing rocks and fruit at our competators heads.
