this was the year mary potter had spent her whole life waiting for. this was the year she wasn't just harry potters older sister, she was finally going to be just mary potter. after the dursleys consistently chipped away at her self-confidence with little remarks about her appearance for eleven years, she thought hogwarts would be better.

an entire school with wizards and witches like herself ? she was over the moon. it wasn't quite what she expected though. while she never got bullied by everyone. ( excluding draco malfoy ) it was difficult for her to make friends. everyone was more interested in her little brother, and if she did make any friends they were his first. at least until she met cedric diggory. cedric diggory was a second year when she was a first year. he was also the most popular second year in the hufflepuff house. she had no idea why he wanted to be her friend, but she didn't complain. they became best friends in no time, and naturally, mary caught feelings fast.

she was meeting cedric today actually. she was going into her fifth year, harry into his fourth, and cedric into his sixth. today she was with the weasleys, and they were going to join the diggorys to go to a quidditch cup. she didn't pay much attention to those things but she was just excited to see cedric again. they finally met up and cedric walked with mary, "so how was your summer?" she heard his sweet voice ringing in her ears. being with him now, felt different. it felt nice, almost like he was finally seeing her for the first time. like she was calling out 'i'm here cedric! i've been in front of you the entire time!' she enjoyed the confidence she felt next to him. she usually felt shy and anxious, like she didn't deserve to be his friend. "it was nice, i finally got my braces off and got my contacts." she smiled up at him, to which he happily returned. "i saw that y'look nice." mary could've sworn she saw a faint blush on his cheeks, but she quickly turned away and pretended as nothing happened. "do you mind taking a few pictures of me for my instagram? i'm trying to capture good moments this year." she smiled, handing the brunette boy her phone. she knew she didn't have to ask, he'd do it for her anyway.
