Our worlds were pinned against each other before we could have a say. The universes dilemma about the good versus the bad rang loud in our ears as we had to creep around the lord to be together. I was never a guy for a sappy love story, but this angel, this angel in particular drove me insane, the way her hair flowed elegantly down her back and her smile lit up the room when she walked in made my black heart gray. I vowed from birth to never fall in love with a woman like that, but the universe had a different plan for us. We knew that he knew about us creeping around to be together, but still he never spoke out about it. We knew falling in love was wrong, but from the moment she came to escort number 6300 up to the gates her beauty burned the stake embedded in my nerves and destroyed the hatred in my heart. Love was never a four letter word to me and it never meant anything until I was forced to stare that reality in the eyes.
The day stood tall before us when the alarm rang signaling a break in the code, she rushed to get back to Heaven and it wasn't until I was forced out of Hell and bonded before Satan that I realized she didn't make it back. He went on about the "forbidden" irony between us and called up to the gates to confront the Lord about "his mistake".
The apostles arrived with a message from Jesus nearly demanding that his angel be set free and for Satan to disregard the entire situation as it isn't harmful to any side. Satan unapologetically agreed and set my angel free. The ominous look on Satan's face foreshadowed his upcoming plan.
"I'm going to overthrow the kingdom."
I disliked Heaven and its honest ideas for the world, but in an army full of evil we'd all eventually crave something different and that angel was my something different. He offered me the main authority in exchange for getting her to open the gates of Heaven for us.
"I'll do it on the condition that you spare her life."
"You have my word." He replied.
The night had come and the plan prevailed, we had destroyed a vast amount of Heaven and the last thing to do was to get out, but Satan had other plans. No one was supposed to know she opened the gates but, now that they knew she was stripped of her wings and banished from Heaven for eternity. I begged for Satan to let her in.
"And why would I do that? She's a traitor," he laughed.
Fear coursed through my veins as the thought of losing her numbed my body. I did this to her. I left everything and the kingdom to find her standing at the edge of the world waiting for me.
In my heart it was her or nothing.
