Everything ached. His body was screaming at him. Screaming at him to stop and rest. To stop pushing himself so hard.
But Dream knew he couldn't. He knew hunters were right behind him.
Sure he hadn't seen them in three days, but he knew that they'd find him eventually. And well if the rumours heard were true. That they had a new group of hunters that were supposedly better than the last group, he knew that he'd have some sort of challenge if he had to fight them.
He pushed against the trees he passed, as if they were going to give him an extra boost.
His gaze traveled above him, gazing at the sky that had the silhouette of the surrounding trees devouring it.
He closed his eyes and listened to the soft sound of tweeting birds and rustling leaves.
A sudden rush of slumber blew over him and he found himself setting his pack on the ground and placing his axe next to him as he sat his back against a tree.
He looked up once again and saw the sun slowly rising above the trees.
It's nearly midday he thought to himself.
He'd been walking since sunrise this morning, he estimated around seven hours. Seven hours of nonstop walking.
Sure he's done worse before. But his body was weighing down too much.
So he closed his eyes. He figured it couldn't hurt to get in an hour or two of rest. It wasn't like the hunters could catch up that quickly, if they were even still on his tail.
But as soon as he thought that, he heard a distant twig snap that was followed by chatter.
He opened his eyes almost immediately, grabbing his axe and throwing his pack onto his back.
"No George, I'm just saying that I could easily beat you in a fight." One voice called.
"So you're calling me weak?" Another voice asked, a sense of offence in his voice.
"What! No. I'm just saying your not strong." The first voice replied.
"That's exactly the same thing Sapnap." A third voice replied.
Dream tensed up. He could recognise that voice anywhere.
Bad and his hunters were right near him. Only a couple feet away.
It wasn't long until he could pinpoint the noise and see them.
They seemed well supplied, each of them carrying a pack on their back that seemed to be filled to the top.
He looked at the black haired boy, who was kitted out with three different tomahawks, an axe on his back and a strap of all sorts of different knives.
He then gazed to the brown haired one, who instead of having weapons on his strap like the first one, he had a different arrangement of pink potions and bandages.
He then looked at Bad, who had his hood over his head. He had his shirt sword that he's had for who knows how long. And well, that was all he had other than his pack with what Dream presumed to be food and camping supplies.
He made sure to keep behind the thick trunks of the surrounding trees as they got closer.
He didn't know if he should try to slip away or if he should follow them, and attempt to ambush them.
And well after a minute of trying to slowly get behind them to stay out of sight, the black haired boy crouched down and picked something off of the floor.
"Yo guys." He called their attention. "Look at this." He held up a knife that had carvings engraved into the handle. Patterns of swirls and smiley faces all over.
Dreams heart dropped as he instantly pulled his hand down to pat his pockets. He had dropped his knife. Fucking idiot. He screamed in his head.
"That's Dream's knife." Bad said, pulling out his sword. "Stay on guard boys."
The two other hunters immediately pulled out their weapons, searching around the trees for any hints to where he might've gone.
Dream stuck close behind the tree, trying his best not to move or do anything sudden.
He slowly pulled his hand up touch his face, just to make sure his mask was still on.
His fingers tingled at the sudden rush of cold as he touched the ceramic of his mask.
"You think I can keep it?" The black haired boy asked as he twisted the knife around to examine it.
"Over my dead body." Dream spat. He froze. He wasn't meant to say that out loud.
"You hear that?" The brown haired boy asked.
"Who said it?" The black haired kid replied.
"Dream?" Bad voice called. "Dream is that you?"
Dream peeked behind the tree to see the three hunters go back to back, scanning the trees around for any sign of movement.
Dream's body began to scream after a few minutes. He hated standing still. His legs ached badly and his body was deeply exhausted.
"Maybe it wasn't him?" The black haired boy asked.
"No Sapnap, it was his voice." Bad replied.
"Well then why isn't he coming out." Sapnap complained.
"He's waiting." The brown haired boy replied.
"George is right." Bad agreed.
Dream let out a quiet huff. He wasn't in the mood to fight, but he knew that they'd stay here for ages just to wait him out.
So he drew his axe, twisting his wrist around to get a good grip. He secured his mask and pulled the hood of his green robe further down to cover the top half of his head.
He stepped out slowly, drawing their attention as he snapped a twig under his foot.
"So you finally decide to show yourself." Bad smirked, Gus gaze staring right through his mask.
"I see you finally got rid of those two wimps from before." Dream replied. "Hope these ones don't back down from a fight as easily as the others did."
Sapnap shared an uneasy glance with George before turning back to Dream, shaking his head in annoyance.
"Dream." Sapnap said. "You're going to pay for your crimes."
He chuckled in reply. "Sure thing kid. You must be delusional if you think you could beat me."
Sapnap narrowed his eyes, A nasty grin of smugness on his face. "Alright let's go then." He raised his axe.
Dream looked Sapnap up and down, looking for anything on him that could be a threat other than the axe he currently wielded.
He took into account the many knives on his belt and the three different sized tomahawks.
"Sapnap don't fight him." Bad snapped as his friend took a step towards Dream.
"Bad, trust me." Sapnap replied.
Dream smirked as he ran at Sapnap, jumping to the side as the hunter swung his axe.
He spun around Sapnap, sweeping his legs from under him, throwing him onto the floor, a pained gasp leaving his opponent's mouth.
He put his foot on his chest to keep him down, his axe down at his throat.
Dream looked up to George and Bad. "Who's next?"
