"I love you Sophie." I was sitting on Drake's lap cuddling as we watched TV. "Oh babe, I love you too, more then you will ever know!" I buried my head in his neck and closed my eyes, thinking. My life was so perfect right now, although it wasn't always that way. Our relationship hadn't started as easily as most couples. At the beginning of junior year I had moved into town from New Jersey not knowing a soul.
I had never really had a boyfriend so when he started flirting with me between classes I felt nervous and awkward, and even though I liked him too, I doubt I sent him that signal. Looking back now I probably seemed like a crazy bitch messing with his emotions. As time went on I saw him less and less between classes, then found of he had got a girlfriend. I was upset, but I knew he still liked me, judging by how he stared at me when me and my friends walked by their table at homecoming.
They dated for around a month, I would always see them making out in the hallways before class. But I was finally relieved of my torcher when I got to school a few weeks after homecoming.
*FLASHBACK*
I had just parked my cherry red mustang convertible and started walking into the school when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I spun around and came face to face with none other than Drake. "Hey" I said then continued walking through the parking lot.
"Hey, how was your weekend?" he asked, matching my pace.
"Fine. I had to finish that project in English, so that put a bummer on it, but other than that it was the same as usual." We walked into the courtyard of the school, snaking our way around all the clusters of people talking.
"Ya, there wasn't anything very eventful for me either, except that me and Amanda broke up." I stopped in my tracks right there.
"What?"
"I said me and Amanda broke up." He said then continued walking. We approached an empty bench against the wall of the building and sat down.
"Why?" I asked. I had never seen or heard that there was a problem between them, so this was very surprising.
"I just wasn't feeling it anymore. I didn't want to continue with a relationship that was never going to work out." he said. Just then the bell rang and we got up to leave. "Well, I’ll see you later in Spanish, ok?" he said, slowly backing up.
"Ya see you then." I said then turned around and walked to class.
I was in bliss for the rest of the day until I got home. I walked in the house and dropped my bag on the chair in the kitchen. "How was school today honey?" my mom asked as she walked down the stairs to greet me.
"Fine." I answered. It was the same thing I said every day when she asked me. We weren’t one of those close mother daughters who tell each other everything, so she had no idea about the whole Drake situation.
"The new boss at my work got here today, she told me that she has a daughter your age that goes to the same high school as you." my mother worked as a nurse at the hospital. She loved her job, but often told gruesome stories that made you squirm.
"Oh cool what is her name?" I asked as I walked into the living room. Even if I didn’t ask she would tell me anyway, so I might as well get it out of the way.
"Their last name is Green, and I think she said her daughter’s name was Amanda." I froze. That was drake’s ex-girlfriend.
"You said it was your new boss’s daughter?" I clarified. My head was spinning at this point.
"Ya. Do you know her daughter?" she asked. I knew it would be good for her if I was friends with the boss’s daughter. I groaned and fell back onto the couch. 'This is just great' I thought to myself. Just as soon as my love life starts to get on track, a new road block has to appear.
"What’s wrong honey?" my mom asked, sitting down beside me. I took a deep breath and proceeded hesitantly to tell her everything about my situation. When I was done no one said anything. After a minute she responded.
"Well in any other case I would say go for him, but sweetie, will you please just not? I really need to keep this job and I don’t need my boss hating me over a teenage love quarrel." she begged. I thought about it for a minute then agreed. I knew how important this job was and it’s not like it will be the end of the world if I don’t date Drake.
"Fine mom." she then thanked me and I headed upstairs to my room to do homework.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
Life continued to suck after that, having to deal with every confrontation between drake and I. although I did actually become friends with Amanda, and not just for my mom's sake. She was actually pretty nice, apart from the fact that she always complained about a problem she had with boys. He got a new girlfriend that went on to dump him after 2 weeks.
Amanda actually got a pretty decent boyfriend after a while. His name was Anthony. I would walk with her to meet up with him between classes and he would always say hello to me before I left them to go to class. She would always tell me about their marvelous dates, which made me depressed about my own love life to no end.
One day when Amanda and I were standing outside of Spanish talking and he came up to us.
*FLASHBACK*
"Ya Macey told me that her old best friend from elementary school was coming into town so she couldn’t hang out over the weekend." I said, finishing up a conversation with her. Before she could reply Drake walked up and draped his arm over my shoulder.
"Well Sophie is my best friend." he said trying to be funny. Feeling bad for Amanda I ducked under his arm and went to stand next to her, facing him. I didn’t really know what to say, so I just said the first smart remark that popped into my head.
"Ya, ok. Whatever you say!" I blurted out. Just then the minute bell rang and we all headed inside. 'Saved by the bell' I thought. In the middle of class while we were working on o worksheet Amanda leaned over to me.
"Psst! Sophie!" she whispered. I looked up at her. "Do you like Drake?" she asked. I froze up at her question.
"W-What, no. W-Why?" I stuttered. She narrowed her eyes at me then sighed.
"Ya, sure. I just wanted you to know that if you wanted to go out with him you can, I don’t mind. I am soooo over him." she half smiled at me.
"Really, you wouldn’t care? I mean, a guy is not worth messing up our friendship, you know. If you don’t want me to I won’t." a said, trying to be a good friend.
"No I’m sure. You should. I know you guys like each other and who am I to get in the way. And anyway, I have Anthony." she replied I felt like jumping for joy.
"Thank you!" I almost shouted. The teacher looked up at us.
"Girls, do I have to separate you?" she asked glaring us down. "No." he said in unison then went back to looking at our paper. I smiled for the rest of the hour.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
Drake and I became closer after that. A few weeks later he asked me out and I said yes. Over the summer his family and mine went on vacation together. Turns out our dads were old friends from college! We have now been dating for about 3 years. We both decided at the end of senior year to go to the same college, NYU.
I came back to the present when someone started shaking me. “Sophie! Hey, Soph, are you ok?” I looked up at him.
“Ya I’m great.” I said, smiling at him.
“What were you just thinking so hard about?” He asked, tilting his head to the side. I stretched my neck and pecked him on the lips.
“Oh I was just thinking about the past, you and me.” I answered. “I love you so much Drake.”
“I love you too Soph. More than anything in the world.”
