Adelheid Part 1

It's time for the Sword Saint to make an appearance. Let's all give a warm welcome to Adelheid-chan.

[Subaru is a Royal candidate in this world with Adelheid (Fem-Reinhard) as his knight. After Subaru dies during Arc 3. What if Adelheid resets to save her liege Subaru?]

"Candidate Subaru Natsuki has fallen in battle."

Those words hit Adelheid Van Astrea in the gut like an Al Goa spell. Her liege Subaru was dead.

The same Subaru she swore to protect. The one who treated her as a human being. The man that stole her maidenly heart.

That person was dead.

Adelheid fell to her knees in shock as the messenger continued to speak. The redhead wished she didn't have to hear of her failure to protect Subaru, but she knows this is what a monster like her deserves.

Secretly a part of her cursed the Sage Council for sending her Flanders and away from Subaru. An oddity itself from her habit of blaming herself.

Why should she have? A voiced whisper in her mind. It was their fault. If it weren't for them, Subaru-sama would still be alive.

A dark emotion Adelheid never felt before began festering in her heart, and she didn't know what it was. If it wasn't for the way Adelheid was raised she would know what she was feeling.

If the people in the throne room were wise, they would have noticed the dark aura surrounding the Sword Saint. Yet their arrogance and ignorance blinded them to the danger the redhead posed. After helping strip away her childhood and raising her as a weapon they were all too sure of her obedience.

"Subaru-sama discovered the news of the Witch-cults movement in Margrave Mathers' territory. Worried about the possible damage these villains would cause and his fellow Royal candidate Emilia-sama, Subaru-sama attempted to gather assistance from the other candidates but was rejected for various reasons. After this Subaru-sama went to the knight's station but was turned away on the grounds of lacking concrete information." The messenger spoke with barely hidden contempt when he mentioned the other candidates. You could tell something more happened from his voice than Subaru being rejected.

Adelheid looked up in shock. How could this happen? The Royal candidates' rejections were to be expected, but knights should have moved on the words of Subaru alone. His standing as a royal candidate was too much to ignore. So why did no one help him?

The dark feeling in her heart began to grow stronger as she questioned every choice the council has made.

"Knowing the window of time was closing Subaru-sama went with over half the soldiers from the Astrea mansion and also hired several groups of mercenaries. Subaru led this rag-tag group of soldiers and mercenaries to take on a group of Witch-Cultist led by a Sin Archbishop. Petelgeuse Romanée-Conti."

The crowd was in open-mouth shock. Petelgeuse was the only sin archbishop known by name and for all the worse reasons. Who hasn't seen or at the very least heard of this man's work knew he was a monster. The number of destroyed villages made sure he earned this title.

And Subaru went on to face this man. It's no wonder he died. Though the crowd's thoughts were proven wrong be the next.

"Luckily they were able to incept the group before they reached Roswaal's mansion and swiftly defeated the Archbishop."

Shock. Pure shock ran through the crowd. A Sin Archbishop had been defeated by a rush put-together group.

That alone was an astounding accomplishment that hasn't been repeated since the Archbishop of Pride's death 40 years ago. And was due to the efforts of the Sword Demon and the Divine Dragon being intervention.
