Worried

"So, where were you?" Iris demanded.
"Does it matter?" Jeff mumbled, frowning at his sister. For siblings, they didn't look much alike. Jeff had scruffy caramel brown hair and dull gray eyes. Iris had much darker hair than he did, almost an ebony black, and twinkling green eyes the color of pine forests and holly leaves. She was strikingly beautiful, while Jeff was forgettable dull.
"Yes," Iris stated flatly.
"You're just gonna get mad," Jeff whined.
"Will not!" Iris said defensively. Iris was well known for her quick temper.
Jeff sighed. He would be getting absolutely nowhere if he continued the conversation, if you could even call it that, like this. "Fine," he relented. "I hired a pair of eyes."
Iris, although this was usually their brother's thing, had lied. "YOU WHAT?!" she bellowed.
Jeff flinched. Iris could be really scary if she wanted. "On Cleo. We have to know, Iris," Jeff said, trying desperately to convince his stubborn sister he was right in what he did.
"This is NOT how we do things, Jeff!" Iris roared furiously. "You hired her, didn't you? We do NOT involve humans in our work!"
"I'm tired of waiting," Jeff complained. "At this rate, we'll never find out. We need help, and if I need to enlist the help of a human, so be it."
Iris shook her head in disgust, eyes still ablaze with anger. "Whatever. But when this blows up in our faces, it'll be your fault."

Jeff gnawed anxiously on his fingernails. What if Iris was right? What if this wasn't such a good idea after all? After all, she was a human...
"Jeff, stop that," Alex drawled. Alex, who loved to remind his two siblings that he was the eldest, even if only by twenty three minutes, was always harping on Jeff for his bad habit of chewing his nails.
Jeff shoved his hands in his pockets, stood up, and started pacing. He would have to tell the girl to drop the assignment. If she saw, they would certainly have one hell of a catastrophe on their hands.
