CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

"Jo, what the Fu..."
He attempts to cuss, but held it when I snapped my eyes to his. "Who is he? Why the hell is he here, around our son?"

Naturally, I want to roll my eyes. Only with the situation I've still to explain to Aiden, I kinda hold it. Yet it's only because of Aiden's eyes were wide.

"Um,"
Yeah, that's all that left my mouth. How the hell do I do this?
"Jolie, is this his dad?" Aiden asked while tilting his head slightly. All I did was bite my lip while Cade told him he was.

"Who the hell are you, and why are you here?"
Aiden's body jumps slightly, just as Cade takes a step forward in an intimidating manner. Instantly, I take hold of his arm and told him to back off.

"Cade, this is Aiden. We, um... Well, I..."

I'm struggling to break it to him, but while I'm gathering myself, Aiden speaks. As soon as the mention of our "relationship status" passed his lips. Oh god, Cade's eyes once again snap to mine. Pain, hurt, and a crap-load of disappointment stares down at me. That's when Jamison tells his daddy he wants to go in his car.

"Daddy, tar-tar, now."
Cade finally rips his eyes always from mine to look at his son.
"We won't be long, buddy. Your mum and I need to talk."
Yeah, that's not happening. Not tonight anyway.
"No, you boys get going. Cade, we'll talk on Sunday night when Jamison is in bed asleep. We'll talk in private when he won't hear stuff being said. I mean, especially stuff that daddy knew would happen eventually."

I'm staring into his eyes, daring him to say something. It's because he knew it would, but eventually, he sighed and leaned in to whisper in my ear. Of course, he didn't whisper at all. He made sure Aiden could hear him.

"As soon as his head hits the pillow on Sunday, you will explain exactly who this fu..."
Again, he held his need to cuss. Then after taking a deep breath, he turned away to leave. Yet before doing so, he placed a kiss on my cheek. It's something he's always done, but since Aiden's watching on, it somehow didn't feel right. Only because of the way he's looking at us. I'm stunned when he paused in front of Aiden.

"Don't get too comfortable."
"Cade, please just go," I tell him, making him look at me with a look in his eye. Oh boy, and it's one I've seen before. He's silently telling me I'm still his. Damn it, Cade, what the hell are you doing to me? Not wanting to get into it again, I ignore that look and place a kiss on Jamison's chubby cheek.

"I love you, sweetheart. Mummy will see you on Sunday, okay? Now be a good boy for daddy and remember to brush your little toothy pegs."
He screams with laughter when I tickle his sides before placing another kiss on his head. I also take another look at Cade and see he's still looking at me. It's still with that look in his eyes.

"Don't, Cade. I know what you're doing, so just don't, okay." I tell him, and Aiden cleared his throat, reminding me he's still there.
"I'll see you boys on Sunday. I love you, Jamison. Mummy will call you later, before bedtime."

So, with that, I gently push Cade out of my doorway. Once they're both secured in his car and out of my street, I take hold of Aiden's hand and pull him inside with me. I know we're in for a rough night, but I'm hoping he'll wait until I've explained everything.

"So, are we going to discuss the elephant? Or do I have to wait for the next surprise to slap me in the face?"
I'm standing by my kitchen sink when he asked this. He's standing in the doorway, fiddling with his car keys, making me feel nervous.

"I met him the same day we did."
Once the words pass my lips, I take a deep breath before carrying on.
"It was my eighteenth birthday, and I was there to meet my best friend. His daughter," I start then I hear him blow out a gust of air from his lungs, only to then sit down at my dining table.
