Flaria Copernicus always had a love for action and adventure, but she never thought she'd find herself on an actual hero's quest! Disaster strikes her small village of Lestoria, and she's tasked with hunting down the culprit. She's got a little divi...
A dark creature wandered the woods by the village Lestoria. It had a demonic head for a body, equipped with the claws and legs of a crab. The people of the islands of Thera called this spiteful thing a creggen. Nobody really knows where the word originated from, but upon seeing one, there's no other way to describe it better than as a creggen. It stood approximately four feet tall, and is known to emerge from the foresty areas it inhabits to drag cattle and small children back to gods know where. In summary, creggens are a nuisance, which is why they were frequently hunted down.
Flaria Copernicus hid behind a tree and watched the creggen scuttle through the foliage. Her cousin, Kane Copernicus, hid behind another. Both had their weapons at the ready.
The creggen murmured and hissed. Its red bulging eyes darted about in its search for prey. Its back was turned towards them, and Flaria saw the opportunity to attack.
"Take this! Earthward Strike!" She pounced upon the monster but it quickly turned around. The creggen scurried to the side and Flaria's blade stabbed the ground.
The beast snarled and lashed at Flaria. She pulled out her sword just in time as its claw caught her blade. The claw closed down and the metal snapped in half.
Kane rushed to her aid. The creggen snapped at him, but he was faster and thrust his spear into its forehead. With a hiss, the creggen shook violently before collapsing dead.
"Next time, don't yell out your attack," said Kane, shaking his head.
"But it's cool!" protested Flaria. One must always call out their attack so the enemy knows what move will be their doom. This is the number one rule to being a hero (source: Flaria Copernicus).
Kane drew a dagger from his belt. He cut out the eyes of the felled demon and placed them in a brown leather sack. Flaria shuddered at the sight.
"Afraid of a little gore, Flaria?" teased Kane.
"Ugh, I can feel it in the back of my eyes."
"You can't be an adventurer if you don't have a strong gut!"
They sat on a nearby boulder. Kane pulled out two sandwiches wrapped in cloth and a pair of flasks. He shared them with Flaria and the two of them got to eating.
"So what do you think Isa needs creggen eyes for?" asked Flaria. She scarfed down her sandwich. Bits of lettuce and bread crumbs fell in her lap.
"Beats me," said Kane, who ate at a slower and more civilized pace.
Ever since they were kids, Flaria and Kane loved to go on adventures together. They started off small, like discovering caves or other cool features outside their village. As they got older and braver, they challenged the monsters that frequented the dangerous wilderness of their island, Heliopsis. Despite being cousins, they had a powerful bond like that of a brother and a sister. Together, they found themselves working as freelance monster hunters, taking up whatever dirty job their village needed from them involving the deadly creatures that roamed Thera.
One can easily recognize 18-year-old Flaria for the fireball-shaped pin in her short blonde hair. While most girls in the village liked to dress pretty, she was rather content with black suspender shorts and a white shirt as her typical wardrobe. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Kane had messy orange hair and usually wore a tan tunic with black pants. It could be argued he was the source of Flaria's tomboyish fashion sense.
