July 24: the day I met the boy who changed my life. The day I met the boy that I would love forever, and he would forever love me back.
I know I said I had sworn off men, and I thought I did, but Buck just, sort of, grew on me. We stayed at each other's side until before we knew it, we were inseparable.
Our guardians had been basically siblings growing up, so we were always hanging out.
Buck came from an interesting background of the con business, and as you would probably guess, he was as smart, cunning, and sly as a fox, but only when he wanted to be. He was so polite, all the girls in town had a sign-up sheet to take turns giving him water as he painted Whit's End.
When he walked in, he saw little Camilla Parker, who was practically swooning over him like he was her favorite celebrity.
He bent down to her level and said, "Hey, I recognize you!"
She grinned. "You do?"
"Oh, that's right," he smiled. "I must have had a dream about you."
I stifled a snort and went back to work. When I didn't have anything to do, I just sat by watching the little girls take water out to Buck every half hour, and when he was done, he sat down at the front counter and watched me clean.
"Can I...get you anything?" I asked him awkwardly.
He shrugged. "Uh...a lemonade?"
I smiled and nodded, and went to the backroom to make him one. He had the funniest twang in his voice, making him sound like a country hick. His blue eyes made it hard to pay attention to what he was saying without getting lost in them.
When I brought him his lemonade, he downed it and flashed a cute smile at me again. "Jules, right?" he asked.
"Yeah," I smiled. I had no idea that this was the start of a life long friendship.
