A loud sigh broke out at an empty lunch table. It was an attention seeking sigh as the boy's eyes trailed to his friend who was silently eating his sandwich. The boy sighed even louder making him stop eating.
"Yes Leo?"
"Oh hey Nick."
Nick shook his head staring down.
"What is it?"
Leo fidgeted his fingers.
"Oh nothing. I just... kinda need... a dollar and 50 cents."
Nick raised an eyebrow at his request.
"For what exactly?"
"Oh just a drink." Leo spoke sheepishly.
"Uh huh." Nick took a bite of his sandwich. "So you want a drink?"
"Yes."
"No."
Leo pouted at his friend's immediate refusal.
"Why not man?"
"Why should I give you money for a drink when you didn't offer to grab me one?"
Leo thought for a moment and understood.
"Good question. Why would you give me money?"
Nick felt a vein pop into his skull and shook his head.
"You are something special you know that?"
He reached into his pocket and pulled out three crumpled bills. Leo stared at the money with a smile.
"Much appreciated. Kinda convenient you have 3 dollar bills in your pocket doncha' think?"
His gleeful smile made Nick shudder.
"Yeah yeah. Go get your drink." He waved off. "And don't forget I want one too."
"Ok ok."
Leo practically had a infectious smile whenever he was in a good mood. Quite known as an oddity at his school for both A. His actions and B. His personality.
"Always so weird how he conveniently has the right money for things." Leo counted his fingers to himself. "There's the hot dogs at Larry's, the "arcade", the movie theater, hell, even the fricken vending machines. Before they closed and with the ones still around."
Perplexed as he was Leo shrugged it off and made his way to the vending machine. Not many schools he has been to particularly have soda vending machines. His however was an exception since not even a few teachers know about it's location. In a small corner by the old bathrooms that were locked down there was a lonely Coke vending machine. Strangely enough it becomes filled with each soda displayed on the buttons. A catch however was there for this machine of sugar, there was a metal grate below the mainframe. Enough space for a small object to press the buttons and enough space for a dollar bill to fit perfectly. Leo and Nick each designed the tool using a screwdriver flathead piece and a hilt of a hunting knife they found in a park. Nick obviously took the credit, but the idea came from Leo.
"Hm. What shall I choose..." Leo contemplated staring at the options. "Nick picks Fanta on Tuesdays, but today is Thursday so his taste varies to Pepsi and Diet Coke. Hmmm."
Leo thought about it long and hard before uncrinkling the bills to slip through the slot. Once done, the mini screen lit up showing the amount of $3.
"Hmmmmmm." He looked back and forth. "You know what, I'm gonna suprise him."
He hit two buttons and grabbed the sodas that fell down into the space.
"Alright. This should do."
Nick tapped his fingers against the table waiting patiently. He saw a soda land in front of him and his eyes squinted in a confused manner.
