"Wherever you are, light it up, and I'll find you..."
Taking a deep breath, Hex pulled the fuse and luminescent blue smoke came flooding out from the flare. The blue cloud rose above the undercity, surely visible from anywhere.
Kiss your perfect day goodbye, because the world is on fire...
Hex heard whispers behind her, familiar voices, but these were only the ones in her head. Mylo and Claggor, as clear as they'd ever been talked in cacophony in her head. But they weren't the ones she was waiting for.
Tuck your innocence goodnight, you sold your friends like guns for hire...
They had been following her around for years now, but Vi was never as clear as them. When she could see them as real as any other person, standing in front of her, Vi had only been shadows in the streets, prickles on the back of her neck.
Maybe, because Vi was the only one she hadn't seen die before her eyes, some part of her always believed that she'd survived. And now she knew for sure. She only needed to know if she'd come back for her.
Go play with your blocks, and now you'll pay when these walls come tumbling down...
...
The flare eventually stopped, a couple of feeble smoke rings coming out until it blew out and died completely. Hex looked at the thing, turning around. No one was there. No one had come.
Her blood began to boil, she turned back around and threw the empty flare off the edge, hearing the sound of it hit the ground some couple of seconds later.
She was about to work herself into a rage, when someone spoke from behind her.
"Lils?"
The voice was so soft and so strangely familiar. Hex stood there, frozen. Not daring to look back. It took her a surprising amount of strength to finally look, but she did it.
A girl with short pink hair stood there, her face disbelieving, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Oh, Lils," Vi said, rushing forward and hugging Hex so tightly that it hurt.
Hex was paralysed, part of her not actually believing that Vi was here. That she was real.
That her childhood... girlfriend, if she could call her that, was hugging her.
Now that she thought about it, she'd forgotten what it was like to be hugged. Jinx, even though she was like a sister to her, had never much cared for simple things like that. And Silco, even though he was her father, didn't show his love towards his daughters often.
"Are you real?" were the first words Hex uttered.
"Yes, Lils, I'm real, I'm here," she said, pulling back, placing a hand on Hex's shoulder, "I wanted to come back, it really did, but I got arrested," she continued, her tone desperate, "but... oh, Lils, I'm so glad you're alive, I thought I'd never see you again," Vi said, hugging her again.
Hex felt a little, if her memory wasn't faulty, Vi had grown half a foot over the last years, while she, Hex, had barely grown an inch.
